Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

After reading here for quite some time, this is finally my first post.. hopefully first of many!!! Thank you all for being such a treasure of information, and such a huge blessing....

We are getting ready to visit Williamsburg this coming weekend, and I would love to prepare the kids somewhat for our visit. DS is 5.5, and DD is 3.5. I would love some recommendations on good books to read with them this coming week!! Any thoughts/experience I'd love to hear it... thanks!!

Thanks for asking this, Liz. I will be anxiously following this as we are also planning a Williamsburg trip. There are lots of VA ladies on this board so I am sure you will get lots of great ideas.

Have a wonderful trip!

We have been to Williamsburg several times and we really enjoy going there. It is right on the way to my dh's parents house (18 hour drive for us) which makes it a great place to stop for a break.
I don't have any picture book recommendations but did you know there is a website you can go to all about Williamsburg? There are games and maps there. My kids really learned alot before our trip by playing the games, and they knew exactly where they wanted to go because they had studied the maps.

Thanks Becky! I checked out the website, it was a big help. We also managed to find a few good books at the library, I think we'll just see how it goes and then do more followup when we return.

Liz,

I meant to post this sooner. We have an old book Little Lost Kitten a Story of Williamsburg in the Days of George Washington, kind of a "Golden Books" format which gives a snapshot for children. But it is an older book.

If You Lived In Williamsburg in Colonial Days

D is for Drums: A Colonial Williamsburg ABC

I found reading about historical (like George Washington), and then other books you can find like "Crafts of Williamsburg" that give springboard into different rabbit trails.

Not a book, but the videos "Liberty's Kids" are good way to prepare for your trip, or post trip discussions.
