Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What are the best pencils, crayons, etc. for a preschooler to use for drawing, writing, and coloring? Any suggestions or advice welcome. Thanks.

We seem to do well with the shorter fatter ones for toddler age, and then the slightly chunkier than normal triangular ones for our 5yo. Our supermarket sold some nice triangular wooden pencils that were cheap but feel nice to hold and draw nicely too.

How do you sharpen a triangle-shaped pencil?

We just use a big holed sharpener, which seems to work, as the end where the lead is just sharpens up round.

When I worked at a Montessori school, the directresses gave the little ones (18mos - 4ish years) shorter, stubbier type coloring implements to help facilitate an the correct grasping of the pencil ( using the fingertips, three fingers together, a.k.a. the pincer grasp).

Tadoodles
Crayon Rocks
Paintbrushes

I have been very pleased with Ferby colored pencils for my 3-5 yo's. They are a quality, thicker, triangular shaped pencil... They have lasted us much longer than I expected.

Ferby

And WASHABLE markers & crayons for 2-5 yos.

I just bought markers by Roseart called Color Start. They are short, thick, traingled shaped for easy gripping. They have animals on the lids and everytime you close them they make an animal sound. My 2 1/2 year old loves them! Oh and of course they are washable! They also make crayons.
