I was wondering about using some of Lori's materials. My little guy is a beginner reader - and I thought these might be an alternative to workbooky type activities which involve a lot of writing.
I would love to hear how you use them.
thanks

We have only used the pink series so far.
This is the current work: We use the word cards and sort them by letters. I'll put out 10 or 12 words and ask him to find all the words that start with a certain letter, and we'll continue until we get through all the cards. When he's finished we talk about how many words ended up in each column. I also have him sort the cards by middle letter and last letter.
I wrote a post about it here: Reading post
I also use it along with the moveable alphabet- that is probably my son's favorite work. He will choose pictures, sound them out and spell them by the sounds. We have just started to really match up the pictures and word cards, but he's not very interested there- he'd rather use the moveable alphabet to spell it on his own.
Soon I think we'll be working with the cards that show patterns, all the -at words, -ag words, etc. to help him see patterns in words so he'll see that he doesn't have to sound out each letter ever time.
And this isn't a pink series work, but I made some index cards with names of family members because those are the words he asks me to spell for him all the time. They are sight words for him now.

Hi, guys! Glad you're interested in the Pink/Blue/Green; they're such a great way to teach reading and writing.
Here's a post I wrote about the P/B/G materials, in case you're not sure what they are: Montessori Basics: Pink, Blue, and Green Series
The most common question I get about them is what order to use them materials in within each series. The answer is, use them together. In other words, a child can be using Pink Series Rhyming, building words with the movable alphabet and Pink Series Pictures, etc. etc. all at the same time.
The one thing you really do need to use them effectively is a movable alphabet of some type.
And, while I don't sell objects, I really like to use objects with each set. One fun work is having labels with the names of the objects, to match with the objects. Another is using the objects with the movable alphabet to build the words.
At the end of that P/B/G series post, I link to another language post with suggestions for finding P/B/G series objects around the house. You'd be surprised at how many you already have!

Thanks Lori - I will be reading these posts.
I do have various alpahabet sets - maybe I will see if I want to invest in a Montessori one - I like the organized box they come with.

I would really like to use this series, but I need a tutorial!! I have a four year old dd that montessori is perfect for and a seven year old ds who is a little delayed due to some speech issues (that are almost corrected now:)) who also would really benefit as well. What is essential to get started?

Jill - there is some really great information in this old thread...take a look. Montessori Lori has a great blog post on the pink, blue, green series that I found to be a very helpful explanation.
Hope this is helpful.
