Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Kidssoup

Has anyone signed up for this website?

It's time for me to either renew my Enchanted membership or try something new. I like EL a lot, but I do feel that a lot of it is for older kids.

This site appeals to me- I like the color pictures, to start. It costs about the same per year as EL, and there is a ten day trial period (can get your money back if you don't like it).

I read about it on the MY Montessori Journey blog.

Any opinions?

I took a look at Kidssoup when you originally posted, Melinda because I wanted to see how it compared to Enchanted Learning which I'm really enjoying.

Did you ever sign up for Kidssoup? What did you think of it compared to EL?

I haven't signed up yet- I keep debating. I like Enchanted Learning, but my dc (6 and 4) aren't able to use many of the materials yet. Also, I don't really care for the EL animal pictures. For example, if I want a picture of a camel, it is a line drawing with all kinds of labels and lines attached... and never what I think is a really appealing drawing to start. I usually wind up doing a Google image search for a nice picture.   Kidssoup may be the opposite- too cartoony. I haven't signed up for the free trial yet- because you have to pay up front and then request a refund if you don't like it, which is a bit of a hassle.

I'll let you know if I ever make up my mind

Oh, dear- I just printed out, um..... 40 pages from this site.

So, I signed up, and I was really surprised at the variety of things offered.
I was looking for Antarctica, and I found a whole section on the the two poles. Each section is broken into three topics: crafts, games and activities. There is a really cool feature called "resource box" that let's you add pages you are interested in... so that you can print them later when your dh puts more paper in the printer .

Chinese New Year- tons of stuff. Also book recommendations and a whole huge list of suggested activities, back round information, etc. I think we are going to build a chinese calendar, among other things.

There is a "tales and rhymes" section that offers printables and unit ideas for certain books, such as "The MItten".

I saw a lot of very Montessori looking stuff- three part cards to print, too.

I think my main problem with this site will be limiting myself to what I print off- so many cute ideas. Definitely for the preK- grade 1/2 crowd, though.
It doesn't have the more realistic look of printouts from Enchanted Learning. Also, there is nothing like a map of Antarctica.

But I have been using the free sites like First School, etc for over three years now, so this is breath of fresh air. I think $25 for a year is well worth it.
