I'd like to get a set of language objects.
I like this set from Montessori Services. They offer a set of vinyl language object labels that go with their objects.
But, I keep waffling back to this set from Montessori N Such. No pre-made labels. I'm feeling lazy this summer. I like that this set is specific as to which sounds (beginning letter sounds, silent e, 3 and 4 letter words) are being represented.
I'm worried there will be an object that I won't be able to figure out. For ex, in one set I saw online there is an object of a horse with a jockey - the word - "horseman" ?? I would have never figured that out.
Does anyone have a set of language objects? If so, where did you order from and did you have trouble figuring out what the object was representative of?

I have the Montessori Services set you linked. We didn't use it this year, I'll be pulling out next year though. I liked it for those nice object labels.
So I can't answer your question about not knowing a name of an object. But I can just say that I do like the MSrvcs set.

Jennifer, did you get the pink, blue and green reading series materials from Karen via the online class?? I was able to put together all my reading materials kits and objects mainly from stuff around the house, some from the "toob" kits at Michaels and creative inventions of my dc, like a lego "jet" for the short vowel "e" etc. If you don't feel like putting them together though I can totally relate and I think both of the sets you linked would be more than adequate and perfect for your activities!!
I'm eyeing the Mont Services one myself and thinking I could certainly make use of it for extras!
Blessings,

The Montessori Services ones look better to me, and the pre-made labels would seal the deal! Like Meredith I just gathered objects from around the house for ours (and made my own labels), but what a pain that was! I spent way too much time hunting through Lego sets and toy boxes. The only thing that saved me is that I had Superboy to help me find things.

Thanks everybody. I thought about gathering materials on my own, but...
I ended up ordering the set from Montessori Services because I really wanted those pre-printed labels!
No, Meredith, I never got the pink, blue, green series because M. was almost a completely proficient reader at the beginning of last year, and JP was still too little. But, JP is ready to go now. I will probably download the set from either Lori or Alison's sometime this year. He needs to work with the sandpaper letters a little more.

Jennifer-
If you do download the reading series, I would consider looking for a set that has real pictures for matching words to cards. The line drawings just did not work for us, but my ds loved the cards with real pictures (got mine from Sarah Seller's old website). Once we progressed to sentence cards, he didn't mind the line drawings so much, but the pictures really captured his attention to get him started. That was just us, though

Thanks for the advice, Melinda. That seals it for me then! I'm waiting for Lori's I read on her blog that she's revamping hers with beautiful photographs - now I can't wait. Thanks
