Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK. I have been doing Singapore math and Miquon math with my first 3. My oldest can understand mulitplication and fractions and division but carrying-well I think after round 10 (round 1 started 3 years ago) maybe we have that one. But I was wondering is there a Montessori material that would specifically help with carrying and borrowing.

We were not manipulative deficient in the home, I had used the cuisenaire rods, base ten blocks with a base ten mat, and the abacus. I had a teachers manual to go with Singapore math and we did every extra activity in the manual-3 seperate times. Then I tried Developmental Math-which does a fabulous job of taking addition apart into the tiniest pieces and we went back to Miquon Math. I do think we finally get carrying but I am sweating borrowing. Any Montessori suggestions?

thanks

I think the stamp game might be a great solution to your problem. It really makes exchanging concrete. The golden beads do, too, but they are more of an investment. The stamp game can be purchased pretty cheaply.I think I got mine from MO (or maybe Alison's).
Anyway, with the stamp game you actually exchange ones for tens and so on when you need to borrow or carry, so it really makes the child see what is going on.
