Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Everyone!

I am brand new to the MM and will be using it with a preschooler next year. I am finding alot of information on this method! So, I am trying narrow down what I learn to just what is needed for preschools.

I don't what to make the mistake of over teaching and causing fustration. Nor, under teaching and causing boardom. So, here I am to gleen from your experience a good balance of lessons:

For the preschool age (1-3): What presentation topics are a must?

Thank you!

Have you looked at Elizabeth Hainstock's Teaching Montessori in the Home: Pre-School Years? I thought that was a good jumping off point when my oldest was three.

Mare, is this book - Elizabeth Hainstock's Teaching Montessori in the Home: Pre-School Years - a complete curriculum for preschool? Meaning these are all the necessary lessons needed and spread over a few years till kindergarten? I understand that more could be added, but this would be like a core? Just trying to figure out if I am getting it or not. Maybe I need to keep reading more books on the montessori method.

Thank you!

Anya, if you are doing this at home, there's really no set presentations that *must* be done. Sure, there's a whole slew of practical life presentations that *can* be done, many of which are referred to in Hainstock's book. There are also many "pre-Montessori" activities for this age group, like stringing beads, puzzles of increasing difficulty, etc. Again, none of them are a must, but they are all fun and good to do.

If you are looking for a very strictly outlined curriculum, which is seems that you are, then in addition to the Hainstock book and others (like Montessori Play & Learn by Lesley Britton), you will probably want to purchase all of the toddler albums from The Montessori Foundation.

Here are a few of my blog posts you might find helpful:

Montessori Basics 7: Essentials of a Toddler Classroom - this one has a lot of helpful links at the end, too.
