I was hoping that someone might be willing to give me a quick overview of what the Pink, Green, Blue card series are all about. I see that Meredith has just completed an amazing center using these materials, and I am curious how it all works.
I printed off the Pink card from Montessori Materials, and they printed kind of small. I was planning to use them as I do the three part nomenclature cards...is this right? Is there a way to make them print larger?
Thanks!

Hi Shawna, sorry it's taken me a few days to get on this one. Did Lori's post help out at all?? She's got such a great way of explaining it all, but I'll also tell you what I am doing.
Since I am taking the online Montessori training course, Karen, the instructor offered the class her own Pink, Blue and Green Reading Series Kits at a subsstantial discount, so since I had not taken the plunge yet other than the MM pink cards (the ones you mention above) I decided to go for it and put the whole thing together as my ds 5 is chomping at the bit to READ!!!
When MMontessori designed her grammar and pre-reading for her Italian students they didn't need anything quite so detailed and *intense* (for lack of a better word) because the Italian language is much more phonetically sound whereas English is NOT, hence the American development of a phonteically based reading program!
I am so happy with it and can't wait to get started. He has been working with the very preliminary Pink Tackle Box I set up with the MM pink cards, and here is my blog post with a picture of it scroll down a bit. I have him work with it three-period lesson style and matching the objects to the picture cards and then the words to the cards and objects as well. The Full Pink Series however is MUCH more detailed. Let me know if you want more info!! HTH somewhat!
Blessings!

Also, in answer to your other questions, I once printed those same cards to use as 3-part cards, but that just wasn't necessary. We used them as matching cards instead, with just the picture and label. They are very small - I don't prefer them.
As Meredith said, there are other Pink, Blue, & Green Series materials that are better. The end of that post I linked to has some additional resources.

Wow Lori, that post is GREAT! It was exactly the info I was looking for. Thank you. And Meredith, I appreciate the info. BTW, what age is your child who will be using the Pink series?
Thanks!

I just posted about my pink materials on my blog here:Think Pink
Can some of you ladies who know more about this stuff tell me what else I need to make? I don't need sound boxes because dd already knows the sounds, but what else is there to the pink level? It sure doesn't look like much to me.

Theresa, I love your idea for the pink language things! Too cute!
I saw some boxes like that at Big Lots, and it never occurred to me to use them, though when I looked at them I knew somebody probably knew just the right thing! Maybe one day I'll get creative and think of some of these things, but in the meantime, I love reading about all of yours and everyone's here!

I saw those containers at the dollare store the other day and stood there thinking, "what GREAT containers! What can I use them for?" I couldn't think of anything, so i put them down. and walked quickly away! That's why you are all here.....
They look great, Theresa!

Well I certainly don't know more than you on this, but I'll tell you what's in my Pink Kit, there's quite a bit:
1)After the "sound boxes" there are "Classification boxes" where you combine two sounds/letters with pics. They have to differentiate between the two and match the correct pics to the sound/letter. Example: "a" & "r" in the same little pink pencil box with a few phonetically correct beginning sounds (not necesarily three letter words) to match. (She may be beyond this as well)
Next follows:
2) Pink Picture Cards with Words; 6 pictures on a card with corresponding three letter words differing in phonetic sounds to match
3)Pink Secrets; several single words written on separate pink slips of paper folded up in a little box. They have to sound out and "read" the word
4) Pink Single Word Books; 4 pages containing 8 words in a book
5) "a" and "the", plus objects
6) . ? , ! in a box
7) Capital Letters
8) Pink Sentence Cards
9) Pink Sentence Cards w/ Pictures
10) Pink Books; 3 pages with 6 sentences, eg. "The bug is in the web." with a pic of a web.
Let me know if this is helpful or confusing, and I'll try to help out more. You're set-up looks great and you have a good head start!

Thanks, Meredith that is very helpful.
Do the single word books have pictures?
Now, back to the dollar store for more boxes...
I think I may go ahead and get some blue and green boxes, too, just in case they are not available when dd needs that level.
I still can't find just the right thing for my continent boxes. Michaels is so far away.

No, they are just three-letter phonetic words like, bug, cat, mop, etc. and they are mixed up in the book, not all "a" sounds or "o" sounds.

I have a question about the pink, blue and green series. I had printed off the series of "fishbowl" words from somewhere, and I had in my mind to use these as helps with spelling. My child is reading well, but I had thought of using these as spelling helps.
Do I need to use the pink, blue, and green series or not really? It seems to kind of "imprint" in the mind how words are spelled better than any workbooks I've looked at.

Vicki, the Pink Blue and Green Series are more of a phonetics program for beginning. The fishbowl lists were from JMJpublishing (at least that's the only place I've seen them ) and could very well be used for spelling as they do follow the P/B/G format. Have you looked at the MTC Language Albums 6-9? This might help give you a scope and see which direction you'd like to go next.
HTH
Blessings!

That's right, I did find those at JMJ. I couldn't remember where they came from, and my mind has been filled with prices of all this Montessori stuff I've been trying to order!

My dh saw me with a Montessori catalog with pages marked, and he said, "Is every one of those markers another $50?"
