Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I got a great selection of some crazy fabrics while at my dad's a few weeks ago....to make a "fabric tray."

Did anyone do anything extra to them to make them more attractive or more fun/easier to handle? Or do they simply stand on their own?

Here is Erin's post.

Hi Everyone,
Is the fabric box the same thing as the fabric basket? I went to the fabric store and bought a few remnants of linen, denim, silk ___, cotton, and had 1/8 yard cut for wool. Then I cut them up into 3" x4" (too small?)pieces to put in a box or a mystery bag.

I noticed Haistock did say square pieces in Teaching Montessori in the Home, the Pre-School Years, but she didn't specify size. I later came across something stating to make them 10" x10". But maybe there are two different activities. Is it important that the pieces be square? and large?

I haven't attached mine to anything. Where does the fabric get attached, to the top of the fabric only? I imagine the fabric could be attached to anything beautiful such as paper, cardboard, presentation board, mat board, wood, balsa, plastic/acrylic. I admire Erin's resourcefullness in finding fabric and how it turned out on Index Cards so it will be easy to store in a file box. Thanks for the ideas and pictures.

Hey Suzanne! I managed to justify replacing my pinking shears with new ones with a Michael's coupon so I could cut them out with pretty pinked edges. I'm still working on my basket.

Kristee, I'm not making mine but about 4"x4". I think a slightly smaller size still gets the "texture of it all" across, while allowing smaller hands to handle it well. I put mine in a basket. I'm not attaching mine to anything at all, just cutting - make that pinking - and putting in the basket. I am cutting matching squares, and I had thought for an extension of cutting squares from say silk of different colors for matching the fabrics, or linen of different colors, etc.

A neat extension on the fabric box/basket might be to add a glass rod, a balloon, a bit of fur (real or fake)and a plastic cup, and bits of torn paper (empty your hole punch),and tiny bits of aluminum foil, and experiment with what happens when they are rubbed with each fabric, held to their hair, etc. This works very well especially if you have both wool and silk fabric samples.

Can you believe no one in my neighborhood has a pair of pinking shears? What's wrong with these people?

Thanks for the static electricity, Theresa.....that will be sure to be a hit!
