For a new member, this is probably a weird way to join in, but has anyone else noticed a really strong odor of napthalene/moth balls from their orders with Alison's? I received a number of items (lg and sm wooden numbers, pythagorus board) that just about knocked me off my feet when I opened the box. The smell is only just beginning to dissipate and it's been a week! By comparison, my Intro to the Decimal System from Montessori Concepts is gorgeous and smells like nothing other than clean wood. It makes me think I'll stick to Montessori Concepts for my orders, even if their shipping is quite a bit slower.

I am still awaiting my order(s) from Alison's so we'll have to see. I did receive some Large Wooden Numbers from them as a gift for mentioning them on my blog which I was very pleased with and no funny smell, just really nice wooden number smell

My moveable alphabet and puzzles from them were fine- no smell at all. Could your box have been in contact with something smelly during shipping? I feel for you- my grandmother was the Moth Ball Queen, and, whew! what a smell!

Thanks for the warm welcome--I've been admiring you ladies for some time, so it's lovely to be part of things.

It's really reassuring to hear that nobody else has encountered "the smell" because Alison's customer service is great (I LOVE the on-line help feature for getting my questions answered) and their prices are terrific. I'm thinking that perhaps my shipment was freshly arrived from China and didn't get much time to air out before it was sent off to me!

No smell from my order, either. I'm glad because I am very sensitive to smells and get headaches from the slightest whiff of moth-balls.

That's strange ... I had the same experience with my sandpaper letters ordered last year from Montessori Outlet!    The smell did finally go away!!!
