Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Have any of you used Montessori Read and Write by Lynne Lawrence as your sole/primary guide for reading and writing with your children? If not, to what extent have you used it and how would you describe your experience and success?

Similarly, I'm looking to find others who have used the Montessori approach as the backbone of their home school reading and writing "program". I am probing and trying to decide if this is the best route for us to pursue. Right now it's between Reading Reflex, Reading Made Easy and Montessori. I'd like to decide soon so we can get a good start on it over the summer.

Thanks!

Well I can't say I used Montessori Read and Write exclusively, but my oldest learned to read at age 4 with a montessori approach. I used Read and Write and ideas from Hainstock's Montessori in the Home. I found alot of pink reading materials at the montessorimakers list, mm_share list and montessorimaterials.org. I liked the montessori approach as opposed to a more structured reading program b/c I could customize it to my child rather than making him fit into the program. I did use the Explode the Code Primers with him for reinforcement, and b/c he liked them. It definitely worked- he now reads anything and everything!
With my current 5-year-old I am doing this same process, but he is progressing more slowly- he just isn't as interested in letters and reading and sitting to "do school". I like that he can go at his own pace (and enjoy it!), he just recently started reading his first book, when he wanted to, he found he could b/c he knew the letter sounds from working with the montessori materials and playing the "I spy" type games found in Read and Write. Actually, I think I'll check out that book again- its been a few years since I read it!
