Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted a review of Montessori in the Classroom by Paula Polk Lillard on my blog.

Anybody else read this book? Care to discuss?

Great review! I remember appreciating that book for the same reasons you describe- her portrayals of her struggles to get the whole montessori thing going and how to make it work with particular children. Maybe I'll interlibrary loan that one again.

I read the book about a year ago...it really made it easier for me to understand how the whole Montessori shabang works. I would love to discuss! Where do we start?

Another good montessori book for discussion is Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius by Angeline Lillard Stoll. It doesn't have practical advice about montessori, rather it is a review of all the current scientific literature that supports a montessori philosophy. I found it very interesting and alot of it would probably apply to Real Learning as well.

I would love for us to discuss ANY and ALL Montessori realted books! I think it would be very beneficial to our group! I only have "Montessori Play and Learn' by Britton and "Teaching Montessori in the Home The Preschool Years" by Hainstock. I have checked out various ones from the library here and there, but if you guys give me a day or two to round up one that we could discuss that would be great!

Take the lead Angela, and thanks for your blog review, it's wonderful!

If you guys will give me a week to get to Kodiak, get my bearings, find a library and then find a book, I'll be glad to join as well!
I'll totally understand if you don't want to wait. I can't even be certain the library on the island will have any of those books, anyway. Besides, I can just jump in anywhere if you get started without me.
Angela, your review was excellent, btw. You make that book sound like a really great resource.

Angela,
I can't wait to jump in with you guys on the book! Can you give me about a week too? I need to find the book...and tend to a few of the daily duties around here (some sewing for dd) that I have been putting off so I can devote a little more time to reading.

Your review was really great! Hope the library has a copy (or two in case ALMom reads too )

Just tell me when we start.

I just put mine on hold, but probably won't be able to pu until mid-week next week. Maybe we could start after Theresa gives us the high sign?? Just a thought, it'd be so nice for many of us to participate! Thanks so much for encouraging this Angela, love it, and I can't wait to get my book!

We're leaving for vacation at the end of this week and will be gone for a week or so, so maybe we could just start when I get back [around July 1, I think]? That would give everyone who hasn't read the book time to track it down and start reading it.

I also have The Science of Montessori, but have only read it once, about... a year or more ago? But I think it would be a really good book to discuss as well.

I'm glad y'all found the review helpful. I really do think the book is useful on a lot of levels -- introducing the theory, but also on a purely practical level, too. This time through I was also noticing all the stuff her class did with the map puzzles!

I had to request a copy through ILL, so waiting a good week or so will help me. I hope to have a copy in 1-2 weeks.

I'll be back on July 1! (Of course I can jump in late if you'd like to begin earlier. )
