Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am debating on getting one- looking at the ones at Alison's and at Montessori Outlet. I think the one at Alison's has 24 shapes vs. 18 at MO, but Alison's has plastic inserts.

For those of you that have them, how are you planning on using them? I can see tracing the shapes and learning the names of leaves, using them as a puzzle type activity... what else?

Anyone like one company's better than another? The cost difference isn't that great between the two with the sale at MO.

We do a lot of nature study here, and I know the kids would like one. I'm trying to justify the cost to myself, as always. It's a wonder I buy anything

I ordered both the Leaf Botany cabinet and the Early Childhood 3-6 Botany Combo with the Parts of Leaf, Tree, Seed & Flower. I'm still waiting for them to arrive so I'm not sure if they are also plastic. I hope they will be fine, let you know...

I plan to use mine for all different kinds of nature related possiblities in addition to the tracing, naming, identifying, etc. I will probably add some layered leaf puzzles in the Fall as well to extend the leaf cabinet. Just a few thoughts here...

I was looking at the botany combo, too. Oh, for an unlimited budget! I ordered one of the layering leaf puzzles from MO- they are just too neat.

Hmm. I ordered mine from Alisons and they are definitely wooden. I just went and double checked!LOL! The little pegs are plastic, though.
I also got their 3-6 botany puzzle combo. It is wooden and very nice. The little cabinet is cute.

Ah- now that makes sense. The plastic insets are the little knobs. I wasn't making that connection from their on-line description.

Does anyone have a link to the presentations for the NA Botany Leaf Cabinet?

or how about cards for the shapes/definitions of them?

I found plant cards set at Montessori Services, (you can't see them on the website but they are in the catalogue).

I'm planning on using my botany cabinet for my children as a help in nature sketching as well as identifying leaves we find. I got all the inset kinds of things as I'm looking at handwriting reinforcement for any way you can and figured some of my science fans might be more enticed to this than to coloring - but I got those other insets too. I will say that some of my botany insets came a little warped so I was a tad disappointed but I did mistakenly buy the clearance item - thin wood. This one was made in China. The newer ones will be made in Thailand. The provider is having me photograph so he can replace the warped ones.

OK, I have recieved my Alison's order and the insets are wood and the puzzle pieces are wood. They are rather *thin* but beautiful, although I have one that is warping terribly and am waiting a couple of weeks to see if it *settles* down, otherwise he's going to replace it

Here are some links:
R&D Elementary Botany Manual II (They seem to have the same TofC uploaded to both pdf Manuls online, so this is the Manual II, don't know what's in Manual I )

MTC 3-6 Botany Album (It says to refer to the Sensorial Album here as well, probably for the inset work??)

MTC 6-9 Albums Botany (Not much on leaf study, it's a bit sparse, but tons of great Botany stuff!)

Albanesi Botany Page (listed in their cultural section)

NAMC Botany lesson sample

That's all I could come up with in the last few minutes, let me know if this was helpful. I will be using these resources as well as my lovely Research Guides from Montessori for Everyone

Blessings!

Meredith, did you get the clearance one from them (4 drawers)? Cuz I have the SAME PROBLEM with the very first square. I left a message yesterday inquiring about it.

Suzanne,

How are you finding the cost of postage to Australia? Are any of the American suppliers better in this regard than others & have you found any suppliers in Australia that are competitively priced? I would love your advice before I start trying to make my orders. I'm in Bangalow on the East Coast near Byron Bay.

Amber:
Welcome to the forum!! Glad you're here!

I'm not in Australia.....wish I was . Especially after the day I've had

I know Erin is in Australia and is getting a bit Montessori'd-up! Or, maybe start a thread asking if anyone has any feedback about this. I know shipping across the US is pricey for materials....I can imagine what it would be going across the world! Would be great if you could find a supplier there.

Hi Amber

I'm from Vic, Oz. I've been looking around for a supplier with competitively priced shipping to Australia, and the best ones I have found have been Adena Montessori (free shipping over US$350, and only $28 for a smaller order), and Montessori Outlet. MO's shipping is still a fair whack, but their prices are very competitive, especially as they seemed to have extended their 25% off sale to end of July. Their shipping will depend on what you order, but you can go on their website and once you've placed your items in the cart it will work out the shipping for you.

I haven't ordered as yet, so I cannot comment on the quality of either. I do like MO's blurb on their improved quality.

G'Day! Suzanne Yes, I did get the clearance one, and he has some extra's set aside and at this point I am waiting on the warp to calm down after it's trip from humid NYC to my very hot & dry locale.    He's very agreeable and knew there would probably be some replacements necessary on this as the wood is pretty thin, but I still am very pleased with the overall quality of the cabinet and it's parts, my dc absolutely went NUTS when they saw it

You're welcome Suzanne, and Theresa, you should be able to find orange sticks in the Make-up section at any grocery or drug store as they would be located with all the manicuring items Next I would try the craft store.
