Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've tried multiple times to sit down and read the original Charlotte Mason series, but always got distracted with other books or projects. I got a tip to start with Volume 6 because it's the most "condensed" version of her educational philosophy, so I did. And WOW!

I have a notebook in which I'm taking notes as I read, but I'm reading so slowly because I want to write everything down. So much wisdom. And without getting political, I can't help to feel like what I'm reading of her observations of Germany's education going all utilitarian ... we're kind of seeing now with Common Core. At least that's been my observation so far. I'm glad that I'm reading it now as our school year will pick back up in a few weeks. It's really getting me excited again after a period of burnout and exhaustion, and really just feeling thankful that I have this ability to give my kids a different kind of education at home. A good one. Hopefully.

I have had her books for years and still haven't taken the time to read them. Your post is timely though as I just took mine out (vol 6) and was intending to get started. My dc are older but this year especially, I am feeling the need for inspiration after a particularly difficult couple of years. I know what you mean about burnout and exhaustion! I think it is never too late!
Good luck to you!

I finally read that one this summer. I've started it numerous times. I struggled with it in the past. I had no problems this time and got through it and loved it. I read Cindy Rollins blog post that discussed the book along with reading the book and that was helpful! OF course I don't know if her blog is still out there.
