Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, it's only taken several years and lots of round about reading, but I finally started to dive into Ms. Mason's own writings. I was so intimidated to even try, so I began with summaries and other books on the topic of Living Learning and Living Books, etc. After reading just a bit of Book 6, a new thought popped into my head. I dare say, a bit of an epiphany?

See, I was always nervous about the whole idea of just using books. I loved the idea, but at the same time was scared of it. How do I know what to pull from the text to teach them? So, I gravitated towards teacher manuals or other lesson guides so that I would know what to teach, what facts were important, and what questions to ask. In reading Book 6, it dawned on me that the books are the teachers. I am merely a guide, but the information, the facts, come from the quality books read. The child learns from the books the facts that are important to him (bear in mind my children are very young at this point) and tells me about his/her book. We discuss, I bring in points that I feel are important, but the bulk comes from the literature.

Am I on the right track?

Off to do some more reading this weekend.

I read almost one of her books and I really struggled with it. My vocabulary is so lacking that I didn't understand what she was saying at times and then throw in French phrases and I was really . Maybe I will pick one up to read. I really need a silent house so I can pay very close attention and I rarely get that!
