Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

going from 6 to 7 would garner more attention than we already were getting.. but it sure seems like it.. and it's been nice comments one gentleman even gave each of the kids a quarter for the gumball machine, which was very nice.. but it just seems like I'm getting comments with more frequency.. just me and my traveling circus

Jodie
Do YOU feel more conspicous? I know I do, it has hit me finally that I have quite a few children, I look at them as we walk along sometimes and think...wow I had ALL these children

Jodie, maybe it's just because it takes people a little longer to count all the heads?

I'm glad you getting nice comments though!

I think Lisa is right about the head counting. I can see people trying to do it. I think we get lots of comments because they usually miss one (because they are always in motion ) and then I have to correct them and say, "No, seven." I'm hoping soon my correction can be "No, eight."

We get that all the time too. At church it is so funny watching people count as we walk into Mass.

When we are out people are always counting as we walk by. we do have tell them we have 8 though because Ausin isn't here with us so the kids always correct someone who counts 7 and tell them about their big brother Austin.

Then they ask how many are boys and girls. they are always saying that I must have tried until I got my girl and now I can stop. I happily tell them that we are going to need a sister or her!!

We are certainly blessed!!!

After we had our sixth or seventh it seemed to be this way for us. I have always thought that maybe it was the fact that we had a brand-new baby in arms that made people take a close look at how many children were actually trailing along after us.

One of the favorite comments my kids like to make to commenters is that we have a 15 passenger van and still have 3 empty seats to fill up.

Wow Jodie, are kids are almost exactly the same age! Good to know we will be gathering even *more* attention than we already do! Especially when I take them all out--gasp--by myself! Do you ever get that? It's just funny to me when people can't believe that I will take them all to the store or the OB alone. They're my kids, why wouldn't I take them all somewhere by myself? It is easier when dh is with me but with his horrible schedule we can't have him around nearly as much as we wish we could. Oh well, just hang in there--I'll be right there with you in a few months!

I'm starting to get a feel for all of the gawking myself.

I felt guilty for feeling squirmish when I went out the other day with my tiny family of 3 but with pregnant belly showing. I've never gotten "the looks" before really. Now that I am getting them, I'm surprised at how I feel.

I'm starting to LOVE being home. For LOTS of reasons. What a whimp! A happy whimp though...

I've been gawked at since the beginning - maybe 'cause it's California or maybe because mine were so close together - the gawking doesn't seem as intense now that they're older...

I was hoping I was pregnant this month, but I'm not...I thought I was ready for more gawking

well it's nice not to be alone..

you definately start getting looks when pregnant with #4.. though before that well.. ummm.. I have very friendly children we'd go down the aisles at the grocery store and they wave and say hi to anyone we pass. Not to mention that my oldest would wear sunglasses even as a baby.. and she would cringe when going out in the sun so much that I would often put them on her.. so even one garnered a lot of attention.. 6 months old in sunglasses waving at everyone we passed

I did some theatre in high school, plus child development in college, the classes that have you working in the preschools.. have 2 way mirrors (your side is mirrors but people can watch from the other side.. so you never know if anyone is watching or not) so the being watched doesn't really bother me though I do often feel like I"m "on stage".

I was just really surprised because people seemed to be used to seeing me around with 6 kids.. it must be like Joann said.. something about the new baby (in a sling here) draws attention to how many of us there really are. The funny thing is that at least one of the comments was in the store that I feel least conspicuous.. because they have the tall baskets with the "Car" underneath for littles to sit in.. so the two little boys are down under normal line of sight.. and the four older kids walk along with me.. baby in the sling.. I only need to count to 4 to check that everyone is there so it seems like we'd look like fewer

Chandra - wow we sure do have them about the same spacing.. my oldest turns 10 this month and the new baby is already 3 months old.. such "disobedient" children always growing without permission

Jodie! It's great to hear such a positive point of view on this. I get very very tired of it all the time. It started with my 4th also, and it's gotten 'worse' with each new little one. My oldest was 4 months shy of 10 when my 7th child was born! It's SOOOO great to know there really are others out there with small spacing! :)

I'm so glad to read this thread! We currently have 5 children living with us (four forever children and one foster child)and we get stared at all the time. I think part of it is that we look like a traveling United Nations (our children are of varying racial makeups)but maybe its just that there are more that a few of us.

Amie, it seems 4 is the number that really starts to make you stand out!
Funny around here my kids feel like we have such a small family, and we do compared to alot of our friends    I have a friend who just had number 12, now that seems like alot to me    She is me hero!!

oh Lisa.. you too.. wow.. that's so nice.. once upon a time I thought 2 years was soooooo close together (my sister and I are 2 years apart).. and now well.. it seems like a HUGE gap.. the new baby was born not quite 2 months after the next youngest 2nd birthday.. (and I can't see that it's any easier than closer together ) But they're 17, 20, 18, 15, 21 and 26 months apart.

As far as being positive.. I tend to be a rather positive person.. how I let myself think of things is how I feel about them. And since I hate feeling down and depressed.. well.. I choose to think of things positively.. besides that.. it's much less irritating if I remember to be positive about it.
