I'm not needing a hotel (as far as I know) for about a year and a half.. but our selection with where we're going is pretty limited..
Who all has suites? I know some hotels will have 1 or 2 suites for the whole hotel.. and some are only suites.. but who has them?
I've checked..
Comfort Inn
Howard Johnson
Quality Inn (all the choice hotels)
Shilo Inns
Holiday Inn
Marriot
hmmm I should check Best Western.. that's one I think I missed..
any others?

Country Inn suites have worked out for us in the past.

We've stayed at Residence Inns before, and been happy with them.

If you have a family member with any kind of mobility disability, the hotel is Embassy Suites, hands down. We've stayed in a lot of different places over the years and have learned that the only chain where the accessibility is universal is Embassy Suites. We love them! My dh and one dd use wheelchairs, and all the doors are wide enough, the beds are the right height, the light switches, doorknobs, sink faucets, etc---all the right height. The showers are universally very useable.
We stayed at a Holiday Inn once and requested an accessible room with adjoining room for dc. In the accessible room, the bathroom door was only 28 inches wide. The front desk clerk didn't understand why it was a problem that my dh could not use a bathroom for three days.
We've had 6 in a suite at Embassy; the evening "happy and snack" hour are good, and the terrific breakfast buffet will fill all of you for hours. We're real fans.

p.s. if you visit the D.C. area, stay at the one in Alexandria, VA. It is directly across the street from the Metro station so you can get on the totally accessible Metro there and go anywhere you wish easily.

Another vote for Embassy Suites here, particularly the one in Old Town Alexandria.

Not a suite, but we had great luck getting a condo through an executive housing company. We had a 3 bedroom/2 bath condo (with great room, full kitchen and washer/dryer) for $100/night in the Salt Lake City area in August, 2004. This was cheaper than any suites I could find or two hotel rooms. It was fully furnished...I think I had to wash the linens before leaving. It was a short term stay...just 6 or 7 nights.

This is a timely topic for us as we will be traveling soon. Our problem has been a hotel that will allow us and our four children in the same room. Most have policies against so many in one room. Last year we stayed at a Marriot which was quite nice and they didn't have a problem with the number. I think that would be a question to ask when you are looking for a place.

We like Residence Inns (though not all have free breakfast) and Homewood Suites are the best though they are not in all major cities.
