Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Often in the last year I have talked to moms at my parish who would like to see more 'mom support' for homeschooling and several younger moms who are looking for more help and support for having large families. This discussion topic seems to have escalated this week.

Since I opened my big mouth with some ideas, I have been encouraged to take this on.

I don't have a definite idea for how to do this or what format it would take. Naturally, with nearly 7 of my own, I have to keep it simple and low key.

I thought about a series of talks on various topics. I have a number of friends with BIG families who have older children and the credibility to give good advice, I could corral them to talk.

Anyone have experience or ideas for a format or topics? I would like to have a clear idea of what, why, how, etc. before going to parish staff with anything. If you were/are a young mom starting out and hoping to homeschool, or going against the tide and having a larger family, what would help you?

Your subject line got me ROFL! In the past year, I've started ummm...three or four ministries. I started a mom's group and I'll email you pertinent files. I started the tradition of having parties for feast days and then planned and shopped and cooked for all those parties. I started a Catering Crew to bring meals to new moms and families in need. And I helped launch children's liturgy. My husband was the Charter Grand Knight for the K of C. We are one
burned out family. I will never over-commit like this again. That said, we had a May Crowning today and a Pentecost Potluck. Several people stopped me to tell me how glad they were to see these things instituted..

The moms' group is well attended and has spawned a rosary group and a play group. Subjects have included: The Awesome Mission of Motherhood, FLYlady, The Spirited Child, Feminists for Life, Montessori in the Home, Celebrating Advent and Christmas, the Ministry of Hospitality. next month is scheduled to be Openness to Life. We have breakfast food available and a social time, my kids to babysit in the nursery, a presentation and then discussion.

Honestly, this has been rewarding but I have to stop now and ask myself: should the mom with seven kids be the one who is so involved outside her home? Duh...
