My Gabriel has 5 stitches in his noggin'. The boys were chasing each other upstairs (I do tell them not to run!) and somehow Gabe was pushed into the bathroom sink. He bled like the dickens. I had no choice but to take him and everyone else to the ER. We were there for 2 hours and the kids were so very well behaved. Sometimes I'm suprised we don't spend MORE time there!

I am very very glad it was only 2 hrs. My middle one (now 4.5, at the time, a little over 3) fell in the backyard and split that space between her upper lip and nose. Nasty place. Didn't want it to scar. Had to haul her and her two sisters in (DH overseas)...and spent 7 hours sitting in a hallway (cause the last time we went to the ER, same dc ended up with a stomach bug so bad she ended up BACK in the hospital twice in the next four days)...I was constantly hand washing and sanitizing...and we didn't get sick. But 7 hrs..from 4 in the afternoon til after 11 at night.
Complicating matters, we had had a very late breakfast, and so the girls were going to have an early dinner....well, we didn't GET dinner...til 1 am. There was no one to bring us any, and we couldn't leave to go get anything, because we would have had to have started all over again in the line (and there were folks behind us!)....the kids fell asleep at the table while eating.
BUT there is no scar, and I am very very glad of that.
And I am really glad that your ds is ok (even if they were running around where they shouldn't have been, lol).

Ouch! Oh, the painful lessons our children endure when they don't listen to our warnings about horseplay.  I'm glad he's OK.
You're an inspiration, Lisa. We went to the hospital Friday to check the healing of Olivia's broken arm. While waiting for what felt like an eternity (about 2 hrs) I thought about moms with more children than my four. Trying to keep everyone happy...especially when the wait is long & crosses into meal time. My children were well-behaved also, but just imagining balancing additional personalities...I almost posted to ask how everyone handles appts. Not even thinking about emergencies!!
So, do tell  did you bring snacks? or can all your children handle long periods without food?
I really wonder about stuff like that. I brought oranges. LOL During an emergency...I don't I'd have time to grab something. My Nathan has to eat at least every two hours or I will regret it.

What a trying situation! WTG for the well-behaving kids though!
We were in a home improvement store when dd cut her forehead on one of the vanities there. (of course we had told them not to mess around!) My Dh was so upset as he didn't want to pay an ER visit for 2 stitches. He is a PA at a neighboring town's ER and was not pleased that it had happened far away from his ER which he could have sewn her up for free! He grabbed a pack of superglue, paid for it at the counter and fixed her up right there. The teller tried to give dd some candy for being so brave but Dh informed her that kids don't get candy when they misbehave!

I know...my husband and I marvel that we have never had ONE broken bone. We also have never had an emergency room visit...for the kids!

Gosh, what a trial! My ds has had us at Casualty (ie ER) not once but FIVE times. The latest was in the summer when he split his head open and so much blood poured out I thought he was going to die, really. Luckily each time I've been able to leave the girls with a neighbour. I can't imagine even having my little brood all together there. Such hard work keeping everyone happy, fed and clean...

Thankfully your little boy is okay and you didn't have to spend a long time in the ER.

A couple of years ago, my eldest son ended up with stitches/staples four times in one year. On two occasions, we had to go to the ER as the doctor's office was closed. Our second visit to the ER will remain in my memory for a long time. I sat in the ER from 7 PM to 2 AM with my son and his newly born baby brother. People with coughs were taken in immediately, but two little boys (mine and another boy) had to wait until the ER cleared out before they were seen and received stitches.

Ugh. Glad you made it in and out in a decent amount of time! My dd was bitten by a dog in the face when she was not quite two and we spent almost 7 hours in the ER because we had to wait on a traveling plastic surgeon. (The dog bit through her lip. It wasn't life-threatening, but try to keep a toddler in pain occupied for that long!)
Our latest trip to the ER with her (for some reason she's had almost all the ER visits, and she's my only girl!) was even longer. We were trying to figure out if she needed her appendix out, but the ER was just overwhelmed with heart attack and accident patients, and an overdose , that they actually decided to admit her and keep her overnight. My husband had just gotten on the train to go down to NYC, and had to get off and back again to come home. He met us at the ER and took charge of pushing the babies around and feeding everyone snacks from the vending machine. I think it was about 8 hours before they finally decided to admit her. Fortunately some IV antibiotics took care of whatever infection there was and she did not need her appendix out, but I swear this child is going to be the one who gives me gray hairs!
