Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I read all about the Signing Time! dvds on the CCM list and here in the Special Blessings forum awhile back. I picked one up at my library recently and we've played it the past few days for my not-very-verbal 2yo. My 2yo is a classic "youngest of a large family, every talks for me and gets me whatever I need so why should I try to say anything" toddler. Her vocabulary is very small, and she only repeats simple words when encouraged. She basically refuses to try to verbalize longer words or string words together. Her hearing is fine, she's just having a hard time making her mouth do what she wants it to do, so she all too often doesn't even try.

She LOVES videos, so I knew she'd enjoy these. I am amazed at how much she has picked up after watching only twice. After watching it on the second day, her oldest sister brought her to me and quizzed her on the food words in the dvd. She did a half dozen of them perfectly! And you could tell she was really proud of herself.

To be honest, I'm not sure she'll really use what she is learning to communicate very often because her speech is coming along--albeit slowly. I guess it was just very encouraging to me to see how well she can learn something, since it hasn't been very apparent up to now with her lack of verbalization.

And if God blesses us with another baby, you can be sure I'll introduce signing much earlier next time.
