Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Priceblink

This was my big find this week. Priceblink is a browser add-on that will pop up when you are doing on line shopping. It will scan the web and tell you what and where the lowest price is for the item you want, plus give you reviews, plus tell you if there are any coupon deals available and where they are!

Oh my- this is a huge time saver, since you can do it all right from the top of the page you are looking at. For example, last night I was looking at a book on Amazon. I thought I had found the lowest price, but Priceblink alerted me to a different copy that was brand new and almost $3 cheaper , plus Prime eligible .

Also this week I poked around in the world of discount gift cards.
Sites like Giftcardgranny allow you to purchase gift cards at a discount.

For example, if you wanted to buy your sister a Michael's gift card for Christmas, you could buy one worth $21 for about $15. That's a nice savings, and most ship for free. You could even buy them and use them yourself as a way of saving a bit extra. It all adds up, right?

There are several gift card sites like this out there, and although I have never purchased one (yet) I have seen them recommended in several frugality books I have read, so I feel that they are legit.

Lastly, I think I found the ultimate use for junk mail... I am using any 8.5x11 pages that are blank on the back to print coupons! Despite signing up at the junk mail reduction sites, we still get plenty, and now I have a use for all that paper.

I was worried at first that since the paper is usually trifolded and has creases it might jam in my printer, but so far so good.

Erin- is that frugal enough for you?

Well it's not cheap but I just got some good quality winter gear for about 60% off retail.. yeah it might be last year's colors.. but 30% was for signing up for an email flyer from the site.. and IT PAYS TP READ THE FINE PRINT.. this wasn't a one time coupon. I can use it for a maximum of 3 orders that are each over $75 until the end of December. So I didn't have to wait to be 100% sure that everyone has gloves and hats and little things before I bought the stuff I knew we needed when some of it was in very limited availability.. I was so worried something would go out of stock before I got my order in.

My frugal find this week was the Blu-ray/DVD combo of For Greater Glory for $5.75. I just checked and Amazon still has it for that price. We already own it, but my husband said to get it as a gift for an extended family member. He couldn't believe how cheap it is now.

Thank you, Christine. I just ordered copies for Christmas gifts.

For fun, my sister and I shopped the end of the aisles at Target where they have many clearance items and found some great items for Christmas gifts. Some funky binders for the pre-teen nieces and nephews and some funky dishes for the young adult ones. Items were super inexpensive. We have many nieces and nephews we shop for so these were great finds.

Thank you for doing this each week, Melinda!

These are all great deals! Will the movie run in a regular dvd player, or do you need a special blue ray player?) Just so I can show my ignorance ) I am soooo not techy.

I wanted to add a note about priceblink: it is a thin yellow tool bar that appears on the top of your screen ONLY when you are shopping.

So, if you are reading here, checking e-mai, etc, the bar hides- guess that is why it is called price blink. It's nice that you don't have to look at it all the time.

Blu-ray/DVD combo means that you get both a Blu-ray and a DVD. The Blu-ray will only play in Blu-ray compatible players, but the DVD will play in any DVD player.

You can keep the Blu-ray until such time as you get a Blu-ray player or you can give it away. If you do the latter, you will still have the DVD. The combo is currently cheaper than buying the DVD on its own.

I really like it when I find affordable presents.

Thanks, Christine.

We only have a dvd player, so I never have thought about blue ray.

(I do realize that makes me sound like my mother! )

It is pretty good

We weren't frugal this week, the latest Percy Jackson was to be released and ds14 was really keen to get it 'straight away'. He rang the two local shops, the chainstore didn't have it in so he sent dh to the other shop which is always dearer. Dh paid $19 and the next day the chainstore realeased it for $12, he was so upset with himself.

However I gave him dispensation and reassured him we save so well in other areas it all balances out.

'Cause on the frugal note another op shop had children's clothes down to 50c and women's clothes were halfprice! So for $17 I bought a huge bag full of clothes Including a pair of maternity swimmers and another pair of swimmers I'm going to use for a minor alteration.

I've been looking at op shop clothes slightly different when shopping lately, not just dismissing them but when not quite right but looking at them in a bigger light. For example, I bought dd12 a pair of swimmers a couple of weeks back at opshop, we knew the top was too low but grabbed them and have been keeping an eye out for another piece of lycra to insert to make the V higher. When I saw the sale I was looking at little boys and girls swimmers as I only need a little piece. Then I found a ladies swim top which will match perfectly colour wise. For a $1 a great way to fix the swimmers. Trying to decide where to 'hack' I realised if I cut of a strip of the bottom to use for the first top (which is also a two piece, long top down to the pants) and hem the new top, it will still be long enough to use. Therefore dd will have two tops to go with her swim bottoms.

Ahh- poor guy. He'll probably never forget it. But you can reassure him that he has supported a musician, so the money was not really thrown away.

You have a good eye, Erin, and good sewing skills! I am very jealous of your op shops. I only have one near me that runs good deals like that from time to time. Others I find to be very pricey, especially the local Good Will shop, which never has $3/bag sales or half off days like I know others do.

With festivities coming up for All Saints and Halloween, I was able to buy jugs of Welch's Juice for $0.89 with my coupons this week. Also bought six packs of flavored water for $0.49 each. Obviously I am volunteering to bring the drinks to these parties!

Also bought boxes of Domino's Brown sugar for $0.49 each with my coupons. I am starting to see some of those seasonal deals that Jodie mentioned last week here.

I like Priceblink, but I'm a little disappointed. I was just looking at my Amazon wish list where I'd bookmarked some items from Rainbow Resources. If you look at the item on Amazon, Priceblink lists a much higher ebay price as the "next best" even though Rainbow Resources is lower than Amazon (not including Prime shipping, but still!).

Anyway, it is a bummer since Rainbow Resources in consistently one place that often has prices lower than Amazon on educational items. I guess I still have to do some digging around on my own before buying.

My mom has a Blu-ray and when she buys the combo we usually get a free movie! Of course, some times it the other way around and I give her the Blu-ray copy out of the combo if I purchase it.

Rainbow has some awesome prices! (As long as you need $50 worth at a time.) I was checking back and forth this summer and I ordered all my books from Rainbow instead because they were cheaper.

I am finding that too, Lindsay, as I use Prriceblink more and more. Sometimes it finds a quick better deal for me, and sometimes I feel like I need to search on my own.

I did dig around on the PriceBlink site, though, and the info says that they are continually building the site and adding new vendors.

I am seriously wondering if I should email them a tip about RR, which is also one of my favorite places to shop.
