Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I haven't been around in awhile (that's a story for another thread), but I need some help finding resources. My second child has high anxiety (tears, going silent, refusal to participate) when encountering any new situation that resembles class room learning. We are starting religion class, and even though he did it last year, this year he is extremely anxious. Even with us in the room.

Do you have any resources to help me learn how to help him through this? He only says that he doesn't like new people, but won't give me reasons why he's afraid. I guess he can't articulate them at the age of 7. He does Cub Scouts with my husband and seems to be fine. He interacts with friends just fine, but new settings with children make him very anxious.

We are starting a co-op this year, so I want to help him manage these feelings and learn how to cope. I will be teaching his grade (16 kids) for the first hour, then leaving for another class.

Ideas? He is a struggling reader and we are having him tutored to help identify his learning style. He is exhibiting auditory and visual glitches, with some memory issues. He is progressing very well with tutoring!

THanks!
Lara

Mary Sheedy Kurcinka.

Her books can really give you a glimpse into what might be causing his anxiety and how to help him with it.

I can't recommend her books highly enough.

Thank you, I will see if my library has those books. Is it specifically the Spirited Child book that would have the information?
