okay details here!
As some of you may know I was really worried about 2 things with this baby: conflicting with my 3rd son's FHC and terror at the pain of labor. (My last 4 deliveries have been very hard on my emotionally and physically and I was dreading goign through that part again.)
Friday night I was rushing around getting things in order because due to Murphy's Law and all that, I felt pretty confident I was going to have the baby either Saturday or Sunday because of that's when my son's FHC was scheduled.
At about mignight, I gave up on sleep because I just could not get comfortable. Got up and pased the floor for a few hours before some mild cramping started in my lower stomache. Got dh up at about 3 am because I wasn't sure what was going on. I've never had "phases" to my labors before. Just wake up and make a mad dash for the hospital screaming my head off.
Dh gets up and times a few contractions at about 8 minutes apart and we decide to err on the side of caution and get to the hosptial.
Get there at about 4:30 Saturday morning. Dilated to 4. Baby at zero station. I'm really scared of waiting until the labor progresses. My very compassionate and understanding catholic ob says she'd like me to have a good labor this time. We start my edipural (which worked! other attempts didn't in the past), dr. broke my waters, and things moved pretty quick after that - which is very normal for me. Normally, I wouldn't have been willing to go that route, even with my fears, because I always worry about the "domino" effect, kwim?
But the Lord must have been really working on me. Bridget noramlly moved around 24/7, but had really slowed down that night. I figured it was normal though.
Well, turns out she had the cord wrapped around her neck and needed a bit of oxygen after the delivery. She was alert and breathing at birth, but needed a bit of a "jump start". Still it was very scary to her mama! I have to wonder if it would have turned out so well if we'd waited or decided to just go home and come back when the labor was progressing on it's own in a few days.
Bridget is doing great though. Took right to the breast right after the birth. She's downright protective of it even! It's a good thing she doesn't have teeth. If I even bump her or mess with her blankets while she's nursing, she clamps on for dear life.
My hospital stay was one of the best so far too. They only took her out of the room twice for about 20 minutes each time. They didn't do hardly any of the usually unnesseccary tests that are so standard. I was really pampered by everyone there.
I'm home and being pampered here by hubby now.
We're just so happy to have had our prayers answered on this delivery. My mama confidence was really low and this was a much needed boost that we really can do this large family thing.
Dh is nagging at me to go eat dinner now. I hope this makes sense.. I'm really tired because she's nursing or cooing 24/7 compounded by my severe anemia.. the result being that I'm a bit spaced out these days.
