Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK just had to share because I am appalled - the new neighbors have a Kindergartner and a 2nd grader and THEY DON'T SUPERVISE THE KIDS IN THE POOL! And they had another neighbor kid over. That kids mom rang their door bell to say something to the mom - who of course answered the door right away (which she shouldn't do because she should be outside with the kids) and it never occurred to her that her child was being unsupervised because she was standing at the front door chatting with the mom!!!!

I told my son - just remember this so you don't get upset when I don't let you swim there (or in anyone else's backyard!).

Just had to share; please tell me I 'm not the only one appalled.

This is the 2nd time I have witnessed this in a week - when you hear the kids swimming and the mom in in the front yard!

That would be out of my comfort zone. If my kids were going to swim there, I would nicely tell the other mom that I planned to stay with them, since our family rule is that they don't swim without mom or dad in the pool area with them.

Maybe she would learn from your example...

Well yeh - cause I don't have a pool!!! I like community pools

But kidding aside - gee, I'm outside with my 3rd grader when he's playing - and that is NOT in a pool! Can't help thinking I'll hear an ambulance called to that house some day!!

Those are the times I always say a short prayer of protection for the kids!

What kind of pool? I guess I'm a bad mom. If it's one of those kiddie pools that aren't very deep, I might be okay chatting in the front yard for a couple minutes with a 5 and 7 year old out back.   I have been known to supervise via watching through the sliding glass door, too.

For younger kiddos, no, I wouldn't leave them unsupervised for even a few minutes with a kiddie pool.

As a mom of children with no fear of the water I'm very vigilant about swimming pools and other bodies of water. BUT last summer my boy between K and 1st grade could swim 50 meters without stopping or touching AND he placed second in our district for 25 meter backstroke. So while, as I said, I'm very vigilant (accidents happen regardless of age), I also know that kids of that age can be very competent swimmers and might make some be more relaxed about it.
