Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, baby has been completely weaned about 7 weeks now (at 16 months) and I am having such weird symptoms that I think (I guess hope) are hormonal related. I am 42 (and 1/2 ) now and have had regular cycles since she was probably 7-9 months (honestly can't even remember). I'm just wondering if what I would usually consider PMS type symptoms are normal when I'm not ovulating and not about to start (stomach issues, major anxiety, sleep issues, some headaches, spotting couple days before/after cycle etc.). The stomach, sleep and anxiety issues are happening right now half way between ovulation and my start date. Is this normal? I don't like feeling so weird.

Let me start by saying that I never get my fertility back until I wean completely. Then I tend to have EXTREMELY painful and heavy periods for three to four months accompanied by pain in my legs.

But the hormone used in milk production (prolactin) naturally decreases the amount of estrogen and progesterone your body produces. In some cases this is enough to prevent ovulation completely. In others, it might not completely prevent ovulation, but your body isn't functioning with the same level of estrogen/progesterone as if you weren't nursing.

What's probably happening is that while your body stopped producing as much prolactin, those other hormones are starting to increase/fluctuate throughout your cycle and cause your symptoms.

You want to make sure that you are taking your vitamins and you might want to try to get your hands on Marilyn Shannon's "Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition" to help pinpoint any other dietary supplements that might ease your symptoms.

All of these can be normal perimenopause symptoms as well, which is just another version of weird hormones. Since you're in your early 40s, even though you've recently had and been nursing a baby, that could be a possibility.

So, I'm 41 and recently weaned my 5th baby. My once regular cycles are now between 22 and 38 days!

My OB was concerned that my uterine lining was too thick and a cancer risk so (of course ) she recommended the pill. I went on the Wheat Belly diet to see if it would lower my estrogen and thin my lining. I am happy to say that it worked! My last ultrasound showed a normal thickness - eating grain-free and low sugar thinned my uterine lining.

In the meantime I checked out the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause" and gathered that basically, most women in this stage can benefit from natural progesterone cream. The trick is knowing how much you need, but can be better determined with a saliva hormone test.

I found a website: bodylogicmd.com and found a physician in my area. I have yet to make an appointment because I wanted to check here first - does anyone have any experience with bioidentical hormone therapy?

Funny...I am anxiously awaiting more input because I too am 42, still nursing, and have had the same odd symptoms. MAJOR anxiety..sometimes even feel as if I have a little trouble breathing...feeling like I have enormous energy, but not necc. in a good way. Also, I have terrible insomnia, my hair has been falling out in handfuls, esp, in the shower..I went to have my thyroid checked and they said it is fine...close to the low range..so, I wondered if I was perimenipause as well. No cycle return yet. So, not sure what is going on with me either!! Secind time I have heard about Wheat Bellies though. Interesting. I do have a terrible "kangaroo pouch" from the babies and twins. Might be something to look into!
