Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok...so my spin-off from the "difficult child" thread. I searched and specifically am questioning grounding of a child. Funny because as I was looking thru the archives I noticed my post from a few weeks back about DH being too easy and here today DH (I believe) lost his cool and grounded DS for the whole day (while he's away at work)! He had him complete everyone else's chores and told him he could just sit in his room all day. Is that really good discipline? DS has completed all the chores and then I didn't know what to do with him since he's not supposed to have any privileges so instead of working on my pile on my desk (my normal Sat afternoon thing while baby naps) we started doing math. He did a couple pages and then said "I need to get out some energy". He asked if he could ride his bike and I figured that was ok since it's a solitary thing and I told him he couldn't invite anyone else outside.

I guess really...what purposes is for grounding? Should I wait until DH gets home to talk with him to get back his freedom? Frankly, I'm ready to be done with his grounding...I feel grounded myself.

Definately wait to talk to your dh.. suffer through today.. and be sure to let your dh know privately that you feel more "grounded" than your son does. But by allowing fun things (bike riding definately counts as more than "getting energy out" here even when done alone) you're undermining your dh's authority and making it more work in the long run.

And you can always round up more chores.. how about cleaning under furniture (big things that need to be moved to clean under them)?.. washing walls or baseboards? cleaning out the fridge? scrubbing the bathroom? Those use quite a bit of energy. Running in place uses energy without any privledges being gained.

Have him stay in his room for that matter. He can play with toys in there or read or lie on his bed and stare at the ceiling but it would let you do your things.

Yep...he was sharpening pencils in garage and then he asked to play basketball and see if anyone wanted to play. I sent him back to his room. Dad should be home within an hour. May be I should have him rearrange his room.
