Anyone ever read this book and used this method with success? We're still in the Potty Training Trenches with the twins. I saw this book mentioned by someone in a post from 2008, I got it from the library, it sounds great. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried this method and if it did or didn't work for you, if not why, etc?
We're starting to see positive glimmers of hope. Ds finally recognizes when he's going pee on the potty chair, instead of sitting there contentedly going pee, and us discvering a few minutes later when he gets up that he went. 
Any thoughts, advice, etc. are helpful. I know it just takes much time and patience. I want to get this accomplished so I can get to all the huge projects waiting for me to get to them.

It is a very helpful book, but it took more than one day  . Even though the title might be slightly misleading, potty training took a much shorter time than it took my friends who didn't do it that way. One thought, and you're probably already on top of this, but I would give the children a week or two *off* and then start fresh with the new method. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to use that time to work on your projects!

That is kind of what I was thinking, since there is so much to be done. We are getting ready for our priest to come over in 5 days, and then four days later haviung a big get together, and there is much to do!
However, right now they have been doing *alright* with the Potty Training we've been doing, and we've saved a ton of diapers with them not wearing diapers these last 2 weeks, so I hate to start using diapers again.  But, if it would work better to stop training, then start fresh with a new method, I will.
And, yes, I was figuring it would take more time than they said in the book.

Personally I felt like putting a warning note in our library's copy of that book. It resulted in much frustration and stubborness. Admittedly part of that is due to my own type-A personality. It took us almost one year to the day after starting that book.
That said, the variet of techniques included was helpful. Just the time frame and intensive training schedule was a disaster for us.

Susan, it is so true that different methods of potty training, like any other lesson or habit, work differently for different people. The temperament of both mother and child certainly can and does affect what works best. And sometimes, even with an almost 4 year old, you just have to step back and let the child take the lead. Ask me how I know.....

I read this book and loved it, followed it more or less for my older 4 when they were right around the 20 month mark. With each child there was a point of utter frustration and stubbornness on their part, although I can't recall right now why. We did finish the training on the morning though, like the book said, and just used the 'practice fast' whenever there was an accident.
I've learned to start quite a bit ahead of time, weeks or months, in getting them accustomed to pulling up or down their own pants. That was a biggie for us -- so many new things to learn and it was so hard for the little ones to get the pants up or down. So much easier when they already know how.
For my last one that was potty trained, and this one soon to be, I let them watch a video called "Potty Power". It helps them get prepared quite well for having, "Potty Power". I also waited quite a bit longer with the last one, and the newest one will be 2 in a couple weeks. It's just too hard with so many others around. (I don't have someone to take them to so that it can be one on one.)
If you can, it's also helpful to teach other lessons before the big day. Like the wet/dry pants and how to empty a potty. If they already know some of those steps, it goes a long way in helping The Day go along much smoother.
As for returning back to diapers for a couple weeks, what if you let the child use pull-ups? That should help them to gain a bit more independence and give the much needed practice in pulling them up or down. Just a thought.

We used this book as the starting point. It does take one whole day, better alone with the child, focused, to get on track. But I break down potty training into multiple phases. This is only the first phase -- understanding the concept and process of going during the day.
Also remember it's set up as a controlled situation. After that initial day, life happens, such as car trips, etc. We did use pull-ups for errands in case of problems. We kept a timer to remind the child (and us) to go potty -- setting it for short times and gradually add on time. For my second one I had to do very short 20 minute intervals for a few days. We had to anticipate before he was going to wet.
While you can teach the child, there has to be that "aha" moment where he's actually understanding this process -- I feel it coming and I can hold it and go on the potty, etc.
