I just went shopping last weekend and I can commiserate! Luckily, I didn't need a nice outfit, so I just bought some solid tops at Gap Maternity and one from Motherhood.
I've had a couple Erica Midi elastic waistband skirts from Cinnamon Girl for 3 or so years. I wear them below the bump during pregnancy, and then pull them up and continue to wear them for breastfeeding. I like them because they are feminine and lightweight. Instead of drycleaning, I wash them in cold on the gentle cycle, and they iron very nicely. To me, they are worth the money, and they look so cute with slippers which are great for swollen feet and also wash in the washer.
I can't wait to see other suggestions.

Mary,
I am so tired of my maternity clothes right now!! I bought only one new pair of pants this time around from Motherhood, because I, thankfully, got great hand-me-downs from my sister and a friend.
Maybe Target or Old Navy would have something. My sister says they have a pretty good selection of maternity now and the prices would be right for a third trimester outfit. Could you borrow anything from a sister or friend?
So looking forward to my regular clothes.........

my friends are all s/m preggos and short. i'm a L (size 14) and tall. it's hard enough to cover that belly during those last weeks, but nearly impossible with small, short, borrowed clothes!
I have gotten a great pair of pants from target this time around. Their dressy clothes aren't much though - cheaply made, thin material and of course, short!
Erica, is there a particular brand you are wearing now that looks nice? I don't mind buying something for a few weeks of wear - especially since those last weeks it seems that you are down to only one or two pieces of clothing anyway.
rachel, the cgirl site is cute. i'm guessing their clothes would be too small for me - the largest would fit me when not pregnant.

This is one aspect that was extremely hard on me. I wear "classic" or "traditional" style clothing. I don't wear ruffles, or hip trendy clothes, or flowers or pink. I'm very conservative...plus I am trying to be modest. With the new trends in maternity for cleavage and tighter clothes that is hard enough, but the styles! I just didn't look like myself. Motherhood Maternity did not carry "My look." I'm not the jumper type, either. I just felt like I wasn't myself until post-partum!
I had one wedding to attend in the 3rd trimester. Dh took me to "A Pea in the Pod" clothing store, which also carried Mimi Maternity brand. I bought a two piece outfit in black with stretch. It was a sleeveless dress and jacket with white trim. My sisters now use it for the emergency dress-up occasions when pregnant -- it was expensive, but it's reserved for the very special occasions! I bought black to cover all the basics, like funerals and such.
I've compiled a list of brands/stores that carry maternity. So far, the best place with a variety of dresses and skirts is Mimi Maternity...at least to my desires. In no way am I endorsing any of these...just trying to give you options. Pickings are slim!
If I had to buy something now, I'd piece together a sleeveless dress with a jacket of some type.

Oh, one more thing! Look through career clothing. Those usually have more coverage!

Mary,
I ran larger in my pregnancy. I am normally a 6-8, but I had to wear Large in my pregnancy, size 12 pants from JCPenny. The dress i have is Mimi brand and I think Large (one sister still has it in Nebraska!). I got EXTREMELY busty, so I needed the extra room.
JCPenney is another store to check out. I had the best luck with them. I had problems with the S, M, L designations for pants. Just didn't work.

I gave away all my maternity clothes last fall. Eight children and not a stitch of maternity clothing (well, actually, I have one shirt that is eighteen years old that I couldn't bear to part with). I started at Target and nothing fit. I'm 5'2" and everything was too long and cut too low. I truly do not have the stamina to shop and I'm afraid to buy online because what I really need is a petite. But...this IS my eighth baby and, at nearly fourteen weeks, pretty much nothing fits. So... I guess I'll starting clicking at Jenn's links.

Another idea is ebay or Hannah Andersson has a long skirt that is elasticized.
Too bad about Cinnamon Girl, Mary. I do so love their clothes. I should have mentioned that I'm somewhere between a 10 and 14 depending on whether the baby is a boy or a girl. I have an ENORMOUS belly, but the rest of me doesn't change too much. My skirts from there are larges.

I'm petite (in stature) also. One advantage is that if you buy the shorter skirts, they hit you at a more modest length! 3/4 sleeves work well, also.

i'm 5'8" and very busty and think target clothes are too low as well! Who DO they fit?! I did order some stuff from Old Navy and sent it all back (except for the maternity undies - i do like undies that aren't granny pants ). Women's clothing is so bizarre with regard to sizing. Elizabeth, i don't know if this would work for you, but i went up a size in clothing until almost 20 weeks. Perhaps this only worked because i didn't obviously look pregnant, but it was easier than finding maternity clothes.
Rachel, i have that HA elastic skirt! It's black and long and doesn't look very springish though.
We have a JCP nearby and I think i really need to try stuff on first. thank you all so much for the suggestions.

IMO, the best value and style for your buck is at Sears and Target. They seem to be better made there and and the cost is very reasonable.

I have the HA skirt too! I noticed that it's on sale now, and it comes in khaki or heather grey which is a little better. It also comes in petite!
I forgot that I did find some reasonable things at JCP this weekend, but nothing springy, unfortunately.
I have to say that I really like Gap Maternity for basics like plain t-shirts and shelf bras camis (they list them as t-shirts HA!), and around here there are two stores--one at Fair Oaks (is that the right name?) and one at Tyson's Corner. The mngr at the Springfield Mall where I shopped told me they have so many sale items that she offered to take some, so I had a whole rounder to choose from! Anyway, Gap Maternity stores are out there in some places.
Also, at a local, tasteful!, lingerie shop, I learned that Goddess makes nursing bras with matching undies. I have a pair of the regular undies and they are SUPER comfy. Hope that wasn't an overshare...

I gave away most of my clothes this pregnancy, I couldn't stand them any longer. Some were my mum's My 14yr old sister who is very chic helped me cull I knew if I didn't throw them I would just wear all those revolting clothes again.
I bought a few outfits at Kmart, and I've been perusing ebay. Two skirts arrived this week, I now need to buy a couple of more tops and some casual outfits for home. BTW the problem with this season's low cut tops I've solved by buying a white singlet/cami top to go under, its to be my maternity one so can get stretched.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a week behind you with only my sixth baby and I broke out my maternity clothes two days ago . I couldn't believe I was torturing myself trying to squeeze into my regular stuff. Of course, the maternity jeans practically fall off of me at this point , but I've now had two days of total comfort!
Finding petite maternity clothes is difficult. I found some petite jeans either at JCPenney's or Sears way back with baby #2 and still have them. I've been unsuccessful finding any since! I do have some capris that are just a little longer than regular capris, so that worked. And with the last pregnancy I found some pants at Target that on a normal height person would be above the ankle, but on me they were normal length.
I would love to find some petite maternity dresses. I like to wear my dresses long, but a regular long dress would drag on the floor and a regular knee-length dress hits me wrong. A regular below-the-knee would probably hit be at just the right point, but I can't find any of those!
Elizabeth, if you're out in the area, the maternity store at the Leesburg Outlet Mall has some great tops (nice $9 t-shirts in lots of colors) and swim suits ($35!). And even some really cute dresses if the regular lengths work for you. As for pants, we're out of luck .
I guess I'll be searching on-line like everyone else !

Okay Molly, I'll be at Lansdowne early this morning for a doctor's appointment. If I'm still standing, I'll try the outlet mall. I really think I have to go shopping. I'm so hard to fit ordinarily, there's no way to do this online. I have a couple of pairs of maternity jeans that a friend gave me yesterday--one in a 4P, that fits now and one in an 8P. My strategy is to use those when I really need pants (like cold soccer mornings) and then to go with skirts and jumpers. Michael found two maternity dresses from the past in a closet downstairs. I don't know if they will fit. They're too summery for now and might be too small by summer. This is certainly an endeavor!I'm thinking about having some things made.
I loved Rachel's "below the bump" idea for knit skirts, but when I tried on my knit skirts below the bump, they dragged the floor.

Elizabeth, I empathise . I have two pairs of maternity trousers, one in a size smaller than my normal size which have about a month's wear left in them at a guess. Shopping takes too much energy, and I don't want to spend anything more than the bare minimum on maternity clothes I'm never likely to wear again, given that I'll be nearly 46 by the time the baby arrives. Maternity skirts are out of my budget (can't find anything under the equivalent of $60) and dresses are virtually unobtainable. A couple of kind friends offered me loans, but we aren't built on the same scale! Now the sweaters I've been living in are getting too tight
