She has been sooooo difficult lately. She is not listening and is being defiant. As in if I tell her to do anything I get an automatic "NO!" She has been covering her ears when I correct her and says: "I'm not listening to you!" or "I can't hear you!"

She's been lying a LOT. Sometimes it's just silly ridiculous things, and then other times more serious things.

Right-away obedience is important to us, and she's really struggling with listening the first time (heck, listening at all mostly). Being kind to her younger sisters is becoming a struggle.

She used to be SO sweet and listen so well. It's like she's been replaced!

Is this normal for her age? I know from DS it seems like they have "issues" as they approach a new age and the 1/2 year mark. She'll be 5 in August and I *assume* a lot of it has to do with that. But at the same time, she's making me nuts! I've got 6 weeks until my due date which means I'm hormonal/emotional anyway, and I'm having a hard time staying calm with her continued misbehavior.

Any words of wisdom?

I don't know that I have any real advice for you, but I wanted to offer up my prayers and support. 4 1/2 is a rough age. My son is 3 1/2, and while he is well behaved most of the time, you can see from my most recent post that he's definitely trying my patience at times. One website that has a lot of really good practical advice for how to get cheerful, first time obedience (and which really HAS improved our household, all things considered) is Raising Godly Tomatoes. Her whole book is online, plus some extra articles.

Oh I have no advice whatsoever- I am so right with you. My 4.5 year old son (who also turns 5 in August) is a bear at the moment. Constantly angry. Constantly acting out. Disobeying. Driving me downright nuts.

So here's a -- and I'm listening in- you are not alone!

(p.s. I just finished reading "Your Four-Year-Old" by the Gesell Institute, and if it's any consolation, 4.5 does seem to be a traditionally difficult age.)
