Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes about two weeks ago, and we're in the learning-to-carb-count-and-manage-his-blood-sugar-and-inject ions stage. He's 22 months, almost 23, with no molars and a passionate love of cookies. I'm very grateful that we live in a city with a wonderful children's hospital, since we'll be spending a lot of time there until Nathaniel turns eighteen.

Anyone else have children with diabetes? Any recipes or snack suggestions for a toddler with no molars who can only eat carbs at certain times?

We're also very grateful that he was diagnosed a few months before our second is born, because that give us considerable lead time to learn and schedule and adjust before the next baby is born in March.

Kyra,

Do join the support group --it's really helpful to be able to discuss T1 issues with other parents. I have two children with Type 1 (10 yr. old girl and 5 yrl. old boy) and another who has been showing symptoms (almost 3 yr. old). It's been a little over a year for us with both of them (they were diagnosed 5 months apart) and it does get easier. Not that dealing with this disease is ever "easy", but you do adjust to the new "normal".

God bless!
