Hi There,
I have a daughter who has a birthday (6 yrs old) in December and Christmas. We are low on space. She already has 2 baby dolls with stroller and a nice wooden kitchen with accessories. I don't know what to get her.
I was thinking about a furnished dollhouse but they are so expensive!!! I really like the Victorian Dollhouse by Melissa & Doug, but to get that with the furniture would be over $200! We usually spend less than $50/child.
She does like Calico Critters and I think she would like a dollhouse. But I don't want to add to the clutter in our home with things that she'll tire of and lose or make a mess with. Are all 6 yod like that?
So, I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

What about doll clothes for her babies? We usually try to add to the collection of toys we already have rather than start new. Do her babies need bottles? There are some talented seamstresses on ebay that sell the cutest doll clothes. Maybe a nice box to keep her dolly accessories in too? Matching dresses for her and her dolls?
My children love, love, love dress-up clothes. We seem to always add to the dress up box, my guys live in their costumes. I usually have a Roy Rogers, Zorro and Princess at the breakfast table.

Oh yes, doll clothes for the babies (if they're big enough you could check thrift stores for actual baby clothes).. what about a pretty apron for her to dress up in for using her kitchen? I like to add a couple of cookie cutters (the nice metal ones) and a recipe for sugar cookies and if she'd be interested her own recipe book that as she learns a recipe she can add it. I usually start ours cooking more around that age. 
craft supplies can be fun and they get used up.. not hang around forever

My default when I'm not certain are art and craft kits or supplies because my children use them up.
My daughters also love their calico critters and one of my sisters is considering making accessories (such as cups and plates) out of sculpty for the critters.
They were lucky enough to be given a wooden doll house from their greatgrandmother (all the grandchildren were too old for it and my oldest was the first greatgranddaughter) but if I hadn't been given that I would have considered buying a small set of shelves of a appropriate size to use as a doll house.

I love the picture of the breakfast table with princess and zorro! That was great! Yes, dress up clothes would be warmly accepted!
An apron her size would also be a great idea.
She is just at the age where she is on the verge of learning to do many crafts. I recently bought her a potholder loom and she has yet to finish one but my SUV floor is covered in multi-colored stretchies.
My 13yod casually asked my little girly-girl what she wanted for Christmas and the list was: a new bike (was tops), plastic food, a kawala bear Calico Critter family, and a clock. I guess she gave me some good ideas.
I just know she would play alot with the dollhouse, but it's so much money and it would take up alot of room. Now that her beautiful wooden kitchen (from Target) is in storage till we find a new house (we're in temporary housing right now), I wonder if she will have outgrown it once it's out? That in itself takes up so much room.
I guess I am complicating things more than necessary. I just want each gift for my children to be meaningful even if we can't get them everything they want. Thanks for any ideas.

A few years ago, my sons made a closet for my dd's doll clothes. They spent maybe $5 on it, but it is beautiful. They went to the hardware store and scrounge in the scrap bin for pieces of wood and a section of a dowel rod. Then they bought some plastic coated wire and made tiny hangers. They painted it and put her name on it.

My soon to be 5yrold (her bday is Jan.) is begging for a tea set and everything dressup.
Something we did for her when she turned 4, but it would work for a six too, was a "real" purse. The purse I bought looked real. It had a real mirror compact, some real keys (that are unused), a "real" wallet, and a real cell phone. You can buy those pay as you go phones for $10, the cheap versions. So it never is used, but it can be played with. So when I say "real" I mean nothing was plasticy, polka dotted sequins, kwim?

My almost 6 year old is getting a boombox with one or some of theseCDs to listen to during quiet time for Christmas. I'm sure she'll like listening to music as well!
