Good Morning!

I wanted to take a few minutes to point out a great college guide resource and plug a great Catholic university program

I'm sure many of are familiar with the ISI College Guide. The Intercollegiate Studies Institute promotes traditional values, Western Civilization, and liberal arts education. Their new college guide just came out and is available online. You can request three of their reviews for free, pay for an individual college's review, or get the entire catalog for $25. If I had kids headed to college in the next few years I would consider this a fantastic investment. The reviews are very thorough and include names of particularly good professors as well as a list of good courses. Each school is given a red, yellow, or green light and even "red light" schools have a list of courses you could take to get a good liberal arts education. This is a great feature for students who might feel "stuck" at a less-than-ideal school for some reason.

I always want to highlight the school where my husband is beginning as a professor this Fall. He is teaching at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology at Seton Hall University. Seton Hall received a green light from ISI and has a very favorable write-up. This despite the fact that they failed to make any mention of the program my husband will be teaching for. (To be fair to ISI the program is brand new). The School of Theology--which is completely separate from the University's Religious Studies Department--will house a theology major for both its college seminary and lay students. Four full-time lay faculty (including my husband) were hired for this fall to get the program running and all four are young, solidly orthodox scholars.

I know there are a lot of choices out there for college but these smaller programs are often overlooked so I wanted to highlight it a bit. Feel free to pm me or ask questions or add information if I've overlooked something.

Susan ... you are so right about the ISI book! We got it for Catie two years ago when she was trying to figure out where to go. This book helped expand her horizons a bit. I know, too, that my niece is at DeSales this year because she saw their write-up in the ISI book.

Good luck to your dh as he starts out ... how exciting!

So glad your dh got a job there! Our dear priest friend, Fr. John Grimm, teaches in the seminary there. Become his friend. Really! Such a holy man.

And I'm always so happy to see people like the College Guide! If you look at the slide show ads at the top of the page, you can see my husbands arms

The website is nice because it also has past write-ups for schools that aren't in the current edition. They can only fit so many in the hard copy of the book. The website also has admission information (from 30 schools) that are specifically for homeschoolers.

Thanks, Lindsay. I figured you'd chime in. We'll look for Fr. Grimm. Eric has probably met him but I haven't been able to go to much new faculty stuff so I'm keeping track of everyone secondhand.
