Hi ladies, I haven't posted much lately. These twins, and starting our home business are keeping me sooo busy. But life is very good.
I have a problem with Jeremiah. He likes to chomp down and pull while nursing. He gets like a puppy dog who's shaking a toy. When he was born, he didn't know how to nurse, all he would do was chomp with all his might. He learned how to nurse fine, but has started chomping again. Fortunately, he does not have teeth, yet.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do for chomping, particularly anyone whose nursed twins simultaeously? I can't just stick my finger in to release his grip, because my other arm is tied up holding Gianna. By the time I get my arm free to get to his mouth, he has already released, and the pain has been incured.
I have tried using my my hand on whatever side he is nursing on, to pinch slightly, just a little pressure, on his shoulder muscle to let him know to stop. This can be hard to do single-handedly, and have effect. A friend had told me to bring the baby in close to the br**st, and the baby should release because of the instinct the baby has to not like their nose touched, so they can breath. He seems to not be bothered by that, or at least it doesn't stop him very quickly.
I am concerned that I get this nipped in the bud before he DOES get teeth. I don't want this to ruin our nursing relationship. My br**sts can be very sensitive to trauma like this, and I develop thrush rather easily. I want to enjoy, and have the babies enjoy the nursing relationship.
Any help would be great.

Praying, as I don't have any advice other than pulling the baby *in* as you have said. You need to pull the baby in hard though, not just for the nose to touch but for the nose to be covered so they do let go to breathe.
This is the age my babies were all teething hard, maybe some teething remedies before nursing?

I agree with Amy!
Be sure and pull him in hard in a big bear hug and he won't be able to breathe and will let go quickly. I have also been known to gently pinch their nostrils to get them to let go when they chomp down hard...only rarely, but I have done this. Desperate times call for desperate measures...
I bet he is teething, too. Wet a clean washcloth and put it in the freezer in a ziploc for a bit and give it to him before he nurses...That could help.

Actually, it was a "bear hug" type thing. But it takes him a little bit to realize, "Hey, I'm not breathing", he's not too quick to get bothered by it. Which is strange because he HATES to have his nose touched to get it cleaned.
Thanks for the tip on the frozen wash cloth. I think I'll try it.
He isn't fussy about it like he's hurting, for which I am very grateful. They both are a little more whiny lately, which leads me to believe they are starting their teething.

No advice, most of my nursers have been pullers too. The latest one is no different. Ouch! I can't remember now which child, but one stopped doing it after I yelled out loud in pain in the middle of the night. I'm *not* recommending you do that, but I was startled in my half-asleep state and couldn't stop the yell in time. Hoping this will soon pass.
