My recent disaster trip to the movies has me wondering if there is a thread here about "safe" movies for kids.
What do your kids watch?
Right now the main play list at my house includes dvds/VHS of:
See How They Grow
Bob the Builder
GeoKids
CBC shows: The Princess of Lourdes, The Day the Sun Danced,etc
National Geographic: Totally Tropical Rain Forest, etc
Magic School Bus
Clifford
Richard Scarry Busytown shows
LIttle Bear
EWTN Rosary
I have dd 4.5 yrs and ds 6.5 yrs
The scariest thing they can handle is an occasional viewing of Aristocats.
But moving on from the above shows, what really good family movies do your kids watch? I am looking for shows that have clean language and good values. I may have to go back fifty years to start building a collection.
I have the original Flipper movie, which I previewed. It seems promising.
What else do you recommend?

We buy a lot of family films from Feature Films for Families. My children love Tillie's Dragon, Scamper the Penguin, The Tangerine Bear that sort of thing. They also really enjoyed "The Christmas Shoes" but that is probably too much for a very sensitive child. We also have a ton of Veggie Tales and we are slowly collecting the animated saints movies.
While at IHM we discovered Pius Media which is a Catholic video rental company similar to NetFlix. You may want to check out their catalog and see if they would work for your needs.

For my little ones:
They LOVE the old Mickey Mouse Club shows, the ones with Annette and Cubby. Those kids really had talent! The only thing may be scary for your children are the episodes of the Hardy Boy, but you could skip them.

The Beatrix Potter Collection is very sweet.

My kids really like "Maisy". We have many of the older "Veggie Tales" and the CCC movies you mentioned. They asked to watch "Juan Diego" tonight. ;)
When we had C-band satellite they liked "Little Bear" and "Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends" and I recorded some of those.
Occasional PBS shows: Curious George, Word World, Clifford, Caillou.
We check out "Magic School Bus" and Dr. Seuss videos to watch after we read the books at the library.
We've been satisfied with "Dora" and "Kipper" on Netflix. My boys love "Mighty Machines". The girls just discovered "Angelina Ballerina" and I'm watching/reading along warily, but it seems pretty safe.
They do get to watch some Disney: Pooh, Cinderella, Bambi were not too scary to them. My oldest girls finally "got to" watch Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. My dh likes the Pixar movies and lets the kids watch them with him, which is better than letting them watch "Star Wars".

Our children are not allowed to watch until we deem it appropriate. Which is determined by whether or not they can follow the storyline, handle the darker moments and understand it's all make-believe. Assure your dh that it will come soon enough. Not to hijack the thread.

Some of my kids are older than yours, but we still have these issues. I often lament to my husband that there's nothing after PBSkids for my olders to watch. (They are 8 and 11). I also have a 5yo and 2 1/2yo.
We like all the Pixar movies. However, we don't watch The Incredibles with anyone under 8 or 9. A lot of darker moments. We rent the old Disney movies. The Kurt Russell Dexter Reilly movies (Computer Wore Tennis Shoes), Herbie, Apple Dumpling Gang for Family Movie Night.
On a regular basis,
Word Girl, Cyberchase for 5 & up.
Dora
Sesame Street
Diego
Little Einsteins
for 2 1/2 and 5 yo.
All the educational ones everyone has mentioned.
It is so hard when so much out there is in direct opposition to your values.
IMO, having some criteria for our decision, like I outlined for Star Wars, helps. My dh and I try to evaluate what each child is ready for developmentally. My ds was ready for Star Wars much younger than his younger sister for example. It helps for them to be able to follow the story and not just see a bunch of images. Then we are able to discuss with them and help process. Sorry to go on so long.
