Has anybody had a child swallow their loose tooth? My child did so today, and it's the first time it's happened to one of my children. Is it safe to assume that it will pass through his system??
Poor child is upset, saying "I can't believe I swallowed my own tooth!" Poor guy!
Thanks in advance for any consolation you can give me!

My now almost 20yos did this when he was 6 or so ... went right down with his pizza! Never had a problem and he's 6'5" now!
Of course, the tooth fairy couldn't come ... that upset him more than swallowing the silly thing!

Poor little guy! It will come out the other end just fine, but he probably won't want to put in under his pillow afterwards.
Maybe it's a good day to read One Morning in Maine and have an ice cream cone?

I believe several of my kids have swallowed teeth-or maybe a few of mine and a few cousins-
Everything "came out" just fine.
We also wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy and she was quite sympathetic and visited the child anyway!

My daughter did this and the pediatrician said he was sure it would pass without any problem but because it was a silver capped tooth, he suggested we check for it. Not fun, but good peace of mind. We found it and I can assure you that no amount of scrubbing would have convinced me to put that thing under her pillow!

Our son did this at the dinner table once.. started crying instantly. He wrote a very nice letter to the tooth Fairy and left it in place of his tooth. She visited him anyway.

My oldest was "dental retentive"
She never wanted her teeth to actually come out, just liked the wiggling and twisitng. What cured her was waking up one morning with the tooth missing...we assumed she swallowed it in her sleep. No complications!
After that she was more aggreaable to her tteth coming out!

My ds just did this. He didn't want to wiggle his tooth or anything, he just tried to ignore the fact that it was loose. He's been terrified that he'll swallow it, so he's very careful when eating. During dinner the other night I realized the tooth was gone. Rather than freak him out, we told him that it must have fallen out while he was playing outside. He wrote the Tooth Fairy a note to let her know to look for the tooth out in the yard.
I'm hoping that the next time he has a loose tooth, he'll wiggle it out.
