Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A dear friend of mine just received her traveling dates to China to adopt her daughter. She has 2 sons at home (ages 6 & 3) and is looking for books/resources about attachment parenting and adoption.

She's been given some verbal advice, but she's the type that likes to research and needs more than anecdotal information.

Any ideas for me to pass along to her? Thanks!!

The Weaver's Craft was the book reccomended to us by several sources when we were adopting. It is not strictly attachment parenting, but had very valuable information about toddler (I am assuming the child is over 1 year old)adoption and the process of attaching when the child is older. This book was quite helpful to us. Hope her adoption goes smoothly--it's an exciting time!

I'm racking my brain to think of books - I can't really think. We mostly pieced our technique together by ourselves and it has worked quite well. Parenting traumatised children is nothing like "regular parenting" - and letting go of expectations and the ideas other people wanted for us was the best and hardest thing we ever did. My son loves to ask St Thomas More for prayers for fellow adopted children, so I will ask him to mention your friends' little one tonight. Getting a statue of St Thomas M has been a really good choice for us - maybe you could give them one as a new baby gift!

Lucy, that is very well said, and oh so true. What I found to be so comforting was that the Lord gave me "mother's instinct" even though the children were not born to me and it came very naturally. Your friend will know in her heart what is right for their child and for their family. Friends who assured me of that helped me more than they will ever know. I will pray for your friends and their new child.
