Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Martha,

While I totally think that post partum recovery tea, lots of water, good food, and vitamins are helpful, along the way I have found that truly the best thing for recovery is REST - lots of it. Frequent naps, limiting trips up and down the stairs, no heavy lifting, etc...

I think that one of the biggest scourges of our culture (well, okay, maybe I exaggerate!) is that we don't give our bodies time to heal - from childbirth, illness, surgery, etc...

bromelain (pineapple) and arnica helps and vitamins .. and yes.. having my midwife insist that I rest.. well I manage to force myself to rest the first week.. but after that.. well.. I'm not so good.. but I try and take it easy anyway.. not push myself.

Any particuliar herbal teas for healing/recovery?

I'm not looking to replace rest, but rather to assist it.

DHA. Seriously. I think DHA is the absolute-cannot-do-without recovery supplement. It's so important for both mom and baby. Read about it here.. I also really like this postpartum tea.

I believe this as well. In the Korean culture, even today, it's expected that after childbirth, you should stay in bed for an optimum of 3 weeks. There are women you hire who come in and do everything for you for those 3 weeks (2 minimum if necessary). My mom took care of me for those 3 weeks each time I had a baby.

Nothing too interesting except that I only go up and down the stairs the same number of times as days the baby is old (so on day one I go down once and back up once). Also I drink lots of fluids, but a variety because I find that just water doesn't do it for me. Once or twice a day I force myself to drink something with sugar in it (like herbal tea).

Congratulations! Hope you're feeling well and enjoying that new little one.

thank you!!

I'm resting plenty b/c I have no choice, my pelvis is dislocated in 3 places and my right hip and lower back are also out of alignment - it's very painful to do much more than sit and walk very carefully short distances. I haven't slept in my own bed since the night before the birth (I'm sleeping in a recliner in teh bedroom) because I can't roll over to nurse. I haven't been up my stairs at all since the birth. (ug, bet those rooms are getting scary looking!)

And I feel like my pregnancy brain has actually gotten worse since the birth. I used to have all these things that I knew to do without even having to think about it b/c well good grief I've done it enough times - right? And now for the life of me I can't remember anything! Like the fish oils and DHA oils! I KNEW that... or used to know it. And I know there's a tea that supposed to assist in uterine healing and building back iron supply, but can't remember it.

so thanks for the tips ladies, my brain and body is in serious need of refreshing!

I agree with the rest, even though I have never been able to take that advice myself.    I hope, one of these days, to have that "leisure". But so far, no luck.

One thing that I do is go shy on the prescription pain meds. I need the pain to remind me to rest or I end up doing too much .

question about the baby bliss gripe water elizabeth:

is it supposed to kind of act like soap bubbles in the mouth? Rob bought it last night and her mouth bubbles now. now a foaming at the mouth and it doesn't seem to bother her, but I wanted to be sure that's normal before giving her more of it

and the fun just keeps comming around here...

we now have RSV running through half the population of our house.

I just hope poor phoebe doesn't get it or get it bad enough to need hospital time.
