Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone else have a goofy/silly 10-11 yo ds? I get so frustrated with my ds....he gets goofy/silly and doesn't know how to turn it OFF when needed. It seems EVERYTHING he aims to do he does to get a LAUGH from someone (brother, sister, friends) It's like he intentionally thinks of things to do to make someone laugh...and sometimes it's stuff he shouldn't do. I don't know...maybe I am too hard on him??? Oh and when someone else does the littlest thing that is funny he gets so wound up laughing even when no one else is. If he were in school I imagine he would stay in trouble and be known as the "class clown"

Here is an example....yesterday I hear him in the bathroom and find out he is trying to unclog the toilet...so I go in to help. Come to find out he decided to flush a paper bathroom cup I fussed at him a bit and he said BUT I crushed it up first....well then he starts laughing...and that made me I don't think he flushed it with intention of causing problems...I just think his rationale for doing it was wrong (he said if he had thrown it in the trash can it would have fallen in the floor because the trashcan was overflowing) He keeps laughing about it (I imagine he had quite the vision in his mind of what would happen if the toilet overflowed) until I tell him I can hold out his allowance to pay for a plumber...then the laugh was over. So, is this simple immaturity for his age?? I don't know what to do with him....

Just wanted to add...he is not like this all the time....but a lot of the time he is....even after DH and I tell him to cut it out.....he has a hard time controlling it.

Yes! I am hoping it is a stage. My ds11 is a great kid, but he can drive me crazy with his antics.

Are you sure we don't have the same 11 yo?
I find myself saying "Life is not a cartoon!!" a lot.
Let me know if you find a solution. I think I'm going to start videotaping so that, in a few years, I'll have the goods on him. I'll just threaten to show his friends/girlfriend!

Here's an article dedicated to just that...perhaps it may be somewhat helpful?

Mine are only 9, but we have it too. I guess I figured that they are trying to learn how to have a sense of humor. We mostly get lots of boring jokes but there is physical humor too. We've tried a couple of things...

First, all jokes have to be run through me first to check the funniness factor. I am blunt about unfunny jokes and help tweak puns or give suggestions about topics that might work into a joke or who would find the joke funny because they understand the context. This is because I'm a chronic overthinker and also because unfunny jokes really irritate Bill. He's very patient but these are his achilles heel.

Second, with phyical humor I tell them this sort of thing is never funny and will get you in trouble(burping at the table), this sort of thing is funny but in specific places (making faces or dancing a jig are fine, but not when you are serving at Mass), this sort of thing is funny anytime (a well told joke).

It seems to be working, but I also tend to think the physical stuff can be an overflow of energy....
