Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My lovely little 10 month old doesn't want to sleep!

It's midnight, and he has *just* dropped off to sleep, having fought it all evening.

Like all babies, his pattern is constantly changing, but in the last couple of weeks he just hasn't wanted to sleep in the evenings. At all. And when he does go to sleep at night, it's not for long. I'm happy to feed him at night (he's in bed with me, or in the co-sleeper), but he wants to wake up and wriggle around, sit or stand up

I'm really struggling -- not so much with the lack of sleep, but with the lack of downtime.

I'm asking for advice because I've never been in this position before. My older children were sleeping through the night by 3 months at the latest. We didn't co-sleep, and we did do some sleep training. I wouldn't do that again -- haven't the heart for it -- but in any case it was simply re-establishing a good sleep pattern rather than trying to impose it from scratch.

The room is dark, a comfortable temperature. He's probably teething -- but seems happy enough in the day. He has great daytime naps -- two of an hour or two -- but that doesn't seem to affect the evenings (ie we have bad evenings after sleepy and non-sleepy days).

I'm rambling. Any advice?

My now 4yo did this at about this age. I was also at a loss because my oldest was a great cosleeper! Anyway, we finally ended up moving him into the crib, which up until that point had been a giant clean laundry hamper, and then to later out of our room altogether. The sleep training part wasn't too bad. I didn't let him cry himself to sleep, but I would have a routine and set bedtime and lay him down, and he would fuss a bit when he got tired of playing, but if he started "for real" crying I would go in and rock/nurse him and lay him back down. If he woke up in the middle of the night, I would just bring him to bed with us and he was ok with that and would go back to sleep. But soon after he quit waking up during the night altogether. I think he just needed his own space to sleep well.

Ironically, over the summer this child has started appearing in our bed again during the night. :)
