Anyone have a nice family film that might work particularly well for Thanksgiving? We don't get TV reception so no parade or football games - any ideas?
Anything you watch on this day each year? We aren't big TV people but we might have some family with us this year who are used to some screen time!

growing up the original Dr. Doolittle was always played on tv in the afternoon.
I just bought it from amazon and am expecting it to show up Tuesday

It is a cartoon, but we love the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I find the music so comforting, like an old blanket. It also has the Mayflower Voyages on it, which is just really amusing, imo.

A third for The Sound of Music. I have such fond childhood memories of watching this with my family. It is so nice to share this with my dc.

Although it's a kids movie, I grew up with Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I still like to watch it with my littles. Some other ones for kids are Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving (the first one on there is a Thanksgiving story). And one for thankfulness, but not necessarily Thanksgiving, is Veggie Tales Madame Blueberry.
I know these aren't "family" movies and some adults might be bored to tears, but I personally get a kick out of Veggie Tales (especially the "stuffmart" song in Madame Blueberry  .) OK, maybe I need to get out more  .

Well...I don't think the adults would mind pooh but I can hear 14 year-old dd groaning at the thought .
We'll try to get Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and a season of the Waltons - that seems to fit - don't you think?

I remembered a TV special I used to look forward to every year called the Thanksgiving Treasure. It is very hard to come by now and seems to cost $80 on amazon! Also, I noticed they now call it the Holiday Treasure  . Are we not allowed to say Thanksgiving anymore??? When did that happen?
It was fun to reminisce though, reading the customer reviews for Thanksgiving Treasure. I think I'll take a chance and see if any local libraries stock it.

For a couple years in the 90's, my brothers and sisters and I always watched Little Women over Thanksgiving weekend.
It's been many years, so I don't remember about "family appropriateness" but how about Planes Tranes, and Automobiles. I just saw it's rated R, but maybe after the kids go to bed  .
Not a family recommendation, but thought I'd mention it here:
We watched
Pieces of April several years ago, and I really liked it. DH did not. There are pretty heavy themes, disfunctional family, etc., but I thought it was well-done. Again, not a younger family movie, but good for olders and adults. Patricia Clarkson and Katie Holmes are really good in it.
And, I haven't seen this, but it's been on my list of movies to watch around Thanksgiving for YEARS.....What's Cooking?
