I was just listening to "Somebody's Hero" by Jamie O'Neal on the radio and was reminded of a night before the hurricane.
My oldest (recently turned 18 years) called me into the living room to watch the video for this song. He wanted me to watch the whole video. When it was over he patted my knee and said, "That's you, Mom." 
What a wonderful, rewarding moment that was. No one could have paid me better or given me a greater award.
Very touching song. Very touching video.  Very touching moment. 
Aren't teenagers great! 
(My apologies if this sounds like blatant bragging but I was moved and cannot listen to this song without realizing that all I've done with my life has not gone unnoticed by those I love.)

I really like that song too, Cay. That was so beautiful that Corey made a point of affirming you through it.
Every time I hear that last stanza, I start thinking about the future and how I can be a good and loving daughter and daughter-in-law as the years progress. You have been a good online example to us all in that area, Cay.

What a wonderful gift to you as a parent. When I read this last night, with dh over my shoulder, I told him I could only hope for such a realization from our children.

You know, I was completely taken aback. It wasn't exactly a *Walton* moment. There was no script, no rehearsal, no audience. Just a boy and his mom watching a music video together. Few words were spoken. In fact, just those three. Corey actually got up and went outside afterwards, leaving me there to savor the moment. Corey is not a poet (remember, classical education did not work with him), but he used another person's words to communicate something to me. And the 3 little words he used spoke volumes...to me. 
And it was enough. Definitely enough. Teenaged boys aren't known for deep conversation...unless they're trying to argue their point, of course.

It'll come.  I firmly believe that if we parent with our whole heart and soul and follow the Church's teachings, God's words, and the Holy Spirit's guidance, our children will call us blessed.
I just always worried they be calling me blessed on my death bed. It's nice to be told just out of the blue, even if it was only three words.

Oh, incase anyone thinks I have ideal children, here's a pre-teen moment.
My 12 yr old ds never dresses up for our hs All Saints party. He thinks dressing-up is stupid and would rather stay home and roast wieners and marshmallows. Today he told me that he wanted to wear a really scary costume on Halloween.
"I think I'll dress up like you, Mom." 
Gee...preteens, ya gotta luv 'em.

Oh Cay, thanks for letting us share in this beautiful moment. Since I'm doing a bit of wrestling with our first teen, I especially appreciate your perspective.

Oh wow! THIS struck me, and I was laughing my head off! I'm SO GLAD IT'S NOT JUST MY SON!!!!
Cay, this brought tears to my eyes. It gave me hope to know that maybe our son may some day feel this way as he matures a bit (he's 15).
