Anyone seen it? Good, bad, other?
My dd6 LOVES Kit. She had wanted the Kit doll since she was little, she got it last Christmas. She was SO excited when she found out about the movie.
Just seeing what opinions others might have on the movie.
Thanks,

I have to agree with MC! This was a great movie -- and wonderful for anyone studying the Depression ... it was the best of the AG movies and actually had a dramatic (but NOT melo-dramatic) plot with humor and sub-plots that were great.
We did a ladies' day -- my SIL, my niece (19), my 17 yod, and my 8 yod ... we had a blast!

Mary Chris, it's good to hear that your boys enjoyed it too. We're planning on taking the kids to see it.

I took both my dd6 and 9 to see it last week (we read all the Kit books, first). It doesn't follow the books exactly. There are many changes and some different characters, but it's still interesting and heartwarming and really gives the feel of the struggles people went through during the depression. There are funny parts and sad parts, but I should warn you. My dd9 did fine and really enjoyed it, but my dd6 cried at least 3 or 4 times during the movie. She wasn't sobbing and she was trying to hold it in, but she was really feeling the sadness the characters were feeling and was wiping her eyes when I would look over at her. We talked about all the parts that bothered her, and she's fine now. I guess it depends on how sensitive your daughter is. Then again, there were parts that I was almost tearing up. Now, when we talk about the movie, my dd6 says she wants to see it again, when it comes out on DVD.

Thanks Angi.. I guess I should watch for it to come here (we've have just the one screen theatre and movies are late first run.. they get here 3-6 weeks after it opens usually)
The Kit books were some of the hardest for me to read.. you see, my grammy would have been 12 yrs old the year they set Kit at 9yrs old.. and soooo many of the things she did, or taught me or such run through the books..

We enjoyed the movie as well. I got a kick out of watching my dds' giggle at some of the humor. That sure made me laugh.

There's nothing bad in it ... altho the dad does have to leave and there is a character who is a bit more flirty than necessary, but I would say 6 or over should be fine (younger might not even notice some of the other stuff).
BTW, my Maggie loved it so much she now wants to be called "Kit" and has been "writing newspapers" ever since we saw it! I just got her an old typewriter on ebay and can't wait till it comes ....

I am not that familiar with this AG character. Is there any of the "feminism" stuff in this one? We were not too pleased with the Felicity one because of the comments of not wanting to wear dresses/do "girl" things and the sneaking around about it.

Oh good, I am glad to hear it was good. My kids (except the baby) are going to see it with a dear friend's family (I'm keeping the babies) and I am glad to hear that it is so good. I just posted on the Real Learning forum about what age is appropriate to read The Grapes of Wrath. My dd (almost 12) wants to learn more about the Great Depression before she sees the movie and probably will want to after also, so I was wondering if she was too young to read it. I can't remember if there was anything bad in it, I read it in high school.
Sorry for hijacking!

I just picked up a typewriter from a freecycler in the area! We just happened to see the offer yesterday and I hopped on that one! Now my dd9 just finished her first newpaper. It's setting on the table waiting for my dh to get home from work. And my dd6 is "Ruthie", happily sitting on her bed reading fairy tale books while her big sister "Kit" types away.
