Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Have you heard of an organization called Babies for Life Foundation?

Think about all the stem cells to be gained from placentas that can be used in gene therapy, as is being done in other countries using adult stem cells. There are many cures happening in other countries with adult stem cells, and gene therapy is now being discovered as a possible cure for certain types of blindness. I have two children who could benefit from gene therapy for their vision if the scientists are successful.

So, if you are pregnant, please consider donating your placenta to this organization and know that it will benefit somebody ... maybe even my children.

Thank you!

God bless!

I am so glad to see a national cord blood registry. When my youngest was born this was not an option. We could have paid to store it privately but it was expensive. As my children have grown up we also have met many folks that could benefit from this.

Just to clarify the process........as I understand it....the nurse or midwife draws the blood from the umbilical cord, think a regular blood draw. I think it has to be drawn right after the birth. All that is sent to the storage facility is a tube full of cord blood. The placenta is then discarded in the usual method. I was at a friends birth, 7 years ago, and she did have her baby's cord blood drawn. I think the birth center took care of sending it off to be stored.
