Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 5yo dd is bored. I need to think of some things she can do here at home when I am otherwise occupied. Her "schoolwork" takes about 30 min (a math lesson and some copywork). I read aloud to her individually for two 30 minutes periods, and she also listens in when I read aloud to her sisters. She plays well with her sisters and alone but not for extended periods of time. She get lots of outside time as well. But we still seem to have hours a day of "nothing to do". I try to involve her in chores and my work around the house. We also have a arts and crafts time (painting, playdoh, etc) every day. I have a list of preschool activities ("Preschool in a bag") and some other preschool resources but they are too young for her.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Jennifer

It seems like she gets a lot of time and attention and interaction and planned activities every day. I'm not sure that she really needs anymore. It's very important for kids to learn how to entertain themselves for extended periods of time.

The only other thing I would consider is to maybe get her involved with more chores, individually or with you or her sisters. And I don't know what your computer policy is, but there are a lot of fun and educational websites out there.

We have LOVED the Kumon workbooks starting age 4 and going up to 7. They teach real skills (cutting, tracing), are colorful and there are lots to choose from.

Here is the crafts one:

Easy Crafts

ETA: My dd (almost 6) has been very happy with paper dolls: flower fairy, Kate Greenaway style and soon, Colonial family (both from Dover). Very inexpensive--worth a try.
