Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I thought it would be helpful to list ways we as mothers keep our balance in life given all our different job responsibilities. I don't do anything spectacular, but I do try and get out at least a few times a month to do something I enjoy (i.e. the library, homeschool meeting, etc...). If I'm at home and need a break, I'll go off to my room for a little bit (this works best during the little ones' naptime ).

I take time out to knit at night. I can be found sometimes in a steamy bath with a good book in the late afternoon (like yesterday when we had a 7pm dinner- yikes!). I also play Ultimate frisbee once a week.

We also try to swing it that my husband is home to do some rejuicing of the family in the evenings- if he has meetings he tries to begin them after the young ones bedtimes. This I find is the most crucial part in my sanity sometimes, and we guard these evenings home!

One of my favorite things is our weekly homeschool playgroup. Sure, the kids think it's for them, but really the mom's go for the chatting and camaraderie! I love my friends and I love to spend time with them so any chance I get to do that is great. We also try to schedule a mom's night about once a month and sometimes we meet in smaller groups to have a playdate. I go with one of the other mom's to Ikea about once a month and we get to shop and chat. Our kids come with us, but it's still a fun time.

I also go to a book discussion once every week or so and that is a great unwinding time for me. We meet at Barnes and Noble and get coffee and dessert while we discuss our book and other things.

Oh and I also can usually be found about this time of night in a steamy bubble bath with a good book and sometimes some good chocolate! Right now I am reading My Antonia by Willa Cather and I am really enjoying it.

Blessings,
Betsie

I have a mom's meeting once a month for our local Catholic homeschool group. My husband is a music prof. so during the semester he isn't available too much to help me out with the day to day tasks, but I know I have it a ton better than a lot of homeschooling mom's. When he's away in the evening I give myself permission to relax, check my favorite internet places, take a long shower/bath, read, etc... instead of just doing housework that might be calling my name. Recently I've also started exericising more regularly on our elliptical machine. I do it almost every afternoon right after naptime. I used to do it during naptime, but I decided to use naptime for some down time for me (and oftentimes nap as well)so I figured it wouldn't hurt the kids to play for 20 minutes so i could work out.

I'm with Betsie, with our homeschooling co-op:-) Basically a playgroup for families who are intending to homeschool (we do have a couple of older kids, but they're mostly 6 and under)—that's why it started, but it's the mother contact that really makes it:-) We also do a monthly mum's coffee... to 'finish' some of those conversations that get detoured at co-op:-)
I also have a monthly craft day at home, on a weekend afternoon. I craft, and welcome any friends who have the time. Families are always welcome, and the kids either play, or sometimes craft themselves. The adults often craft (although, sometimes that can be a flexible term!) and we catch up.
