Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So my DH sometimes sends me the CNN student news videos. This one had two things that were kind of interesting.

First - there is an article about two boys who wore rosaries to school. I don't know if they are in a gang or not, but by the end of the piece, the school admin basically calls Rosaries "gang paraphernalia."

And the main reason he sent the video is towards the end - there is a girl, who is autistic, who is using the computer to communicate. I thought about cross posting this in special blessings, but didn't know?

If for any reason the link doesn't work, it is the CNN student news for 2/29.

I saw the video of the autistic girl a couple of weeks ago. Isn't it wonderful! It gives me such great hope to know that her most significant gains were made when she was already over 10 years old!

Here's my favourite quote:

Quote:
AVARO: Carly has given her therapists advice for those who work with autistic kids.

NASH-FENTON: And the first thing she wrote was "I will tell them never to give up on the children that they work with."

FAVARO: And this is Carly's message for those who look down on children with autism.

CARLY: If I could tell people one thing about autism it would be that I don't want to be this way but I am so don't be mad, be understanding.

FAVARO: Urging the world not to see her as a child with autism, but a normal girl trapped behind the odd behaviors of a mysterious disorder.

Here's a link to a blog written by a young woman with autism: (some mild swearing by in comments, sometimes.) Pretty amazing.

As for the Rosary observation, yikes. I know that in my area, a lot of folks wear Rosaries as jewelry. Perhaps there is more of a bias against their culture/nationality than their religion. But, either way, .
