With warmer weather on the way, I have a question for you all about sunglasses for toddlers. I have a 17-month-old daughter who is light-eyed and, like me, very sensitive to the sun. She has gotten used to wearing hats a bit in the last few months (we live in CA, so we've been taking long, sunny walks all winter, and she will finally keep her hat on now!), but I'm wondering if anyone here has tried sunglasses on their little ones. We're in the market for a jogging stroller (questions about that too in another post), and I'm worried that with the reclined children's seats that jogging strollers ususally have, the hat won't be enough to protect her eyes. I know it will be a challenge to get her to keep sunglasses on even if they do work!  But I was just wondering if anyone has any experience to share.

It depends on the child.. some have worn the glasses some haven't.
It's a real kick to go around with a toddler under a year old that keeps sunglasses on they're sooooo cute.
What works best for me to encourage the use (though it doesn't always work) is to wait until you're actually in the sun and then help them put on the glasses.. it gives them immediate feedback on protecting the eyes.. some still won't wear them.. others will.
Oh and you might try different ones.. some with fit differently than others and that can make a difference in the comfort and keeping on.
I think the ones that worked best for us had the flexible arms.

My youngst is photophobic due to her eye issues, so she has always worn sunglasses. Like JodieLyn said, putting them on once you are actually in the sun works great. You can also get little bungee-cord straps to keep them from sliding down tiny little noses 
One caution- only purchase sunglasses that have both UVA and UVB protection. The dark lenses encourage the pupil to open up, and without the dual UV protection, more harmful rays will get through than would without any sunglasses at all. My dd's opthamologist says this is the reason so many baby boomers are getting cataracts- they were the first sunglass-wearers, and their glasses had no protection at all.

Thanks so much for the tips, ladies--especially the suggestion of putting them on only after we're out in the sun so that she'll feel the immediate effects. I don't know why that never occurred to me, but it makes perfect sense!

The only ones my son would wear until he was almost 2 1/2 were the ones with straps around the back - so he could run and jump and play and not worry about them falling off. I wish I could remember the brand - I bought them at ToysRUs (not our usualy shopping grounds, but we had a gift card) - in a box with a small tube of sunscreen - they had dark blue and another color option (can't remember).
