Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone tried and succeeded at this. I'm trying it with my eighth and I don't know how to guage if it's working or not. Sometimes she pees when I take her to the bathroom, and sometimes she doesn't. I still haven't "caught" a poop, yet.
Any encouragement, advice, anecdotes?

Robynn, Here is a thread I started a while back. It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it's about potty training younger. (I started mine at 15 mos. I know that's not exactly infant though.)

Hope that helps a bit?

I only have a sec, but wanted to encourage you. I've known a couple families who have had enormous "success" with this--diaper free by age one or younger. I also know a few families who have done it sort of part time and have had their kids potty trained young (for our culture). I think any little bit you do will help in the long run.

Also, though, think about it as communication and don't think about it as succeeding or failing.

(We're big failures, btw, but I'm going to keep trying with future babies)

Susan

I have several friends that do this with their children. They started when the children were infants and the children are now all around two years old. They've had great success, and I think it's mainly due to the support they've found in each other.

Here's a site that can hook you up with local support: http://www.diaperfreebaby.org/

I also have several friends who do nappy-free (and I used to think they were quite weird )

About six months ago though, one of them made the comment that they had been feeling quite depressed about how it was going, and how they felt they weren't succeeding. Then they thought about it more, and realised that they weren't looking at it the right way. Really it's not about how many wees and poos you catch, it's about another means of communication with your baby, the reduced washing is just an added bonus:-)

That certainly made sense to me:-)

We did this a little with our youngest. I think we started around 4 mos. of age. He knew and communicated. I could read his cues, etc. We didn't invest in special undies or pants. I didn't do it full-time, as I had my hands full already. At just about 3 yo now, he is nearly fully daytime potty-trained and frequently nighttime dry. Even if you do it part-time, you might have to do the potty-training thing when your baby girl is a toddler. I will say that potty training this one was in some ways easier than my others, but more frustrating in other ways, because I knew he knew when he needed to go.
