Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

At what age did your children start wearing them?

Also, what am I to do with a scapular that can no longer be worn?

Thanks!!

Beth

You can burn or bury your old scapulars. Personally, we wear ours out til they are threads, then bury them in the Mary Garden.

Ages...it has varied. I still can't get my 7yo ds to wear one with any regularity. He has some sensory issues -tags, socks, tight waistbands, etc. Sometimes he will, sometimes it is just too much. I gently remind or ask, but I don't push.

I think it will depend on your dc as to the age you introduce. The earlier you start to cultivate the habit, the likelier it will become *a habit* I think. I know some families who place it around their child's neck as early as 2. Why not just give it a try? Place it on their necks with a short prayer to Our Lady to offer protection to your child, leave it on the outside, and just see how it goes for a few hours.

Don't know if this is helpful at all. Hopefully, some wise mothers will chime in and offer their experiences.

I was going to post that House Art Journal link, but Elizabeth beat me to it!

My 10 and almost-14yos wear their scapulars regularly -- we all got them from a friend when we came into the Church last year. My teenager is the most serious about wearing one -- she ALWAYS has hers on. My little kids, 5 and 4, like the idea, but don't keep them on for very long. I have to admit that I have sensory issues, too, and have trouble keeping one on.
