Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone know if there is a thread about trying to get through the day-to-day schedule when almost 40 and pregnant? We are having our 6th in early November and although it is 10 weeks away I so feel as I am 42 weeks pregnant! I know we will be taking some time off then rolling into Advent so I obviously planned more than I can realistically do for thhese first few months...my lovely dh tried to encourage me about doing too much....but one can be stubborn when "great with child"...and it felt so good to get those plans on paper!
Thanks for any wise (or otherwise:) thoughts!

You just have to listen to dh
I think St Francis de Sales said it, too....when pregnant you've got to be very gentle with yourself, especially in the last trimester.
It's hard to remember now, but you will be feeling like your old self probably by Christmas. For now, just do what you can.
Survival mode and all that.

Hmmmmmmmmm...not 40 yet (37) but I'm 12 weeks away from #6, and I'm here to tell you, don't overdo it! I was so busy I didn't even realize how exhausted I was (you know...perfect mommy syndrome?) and I ended up with contractions and a whole lotta fear and a weekend on bedrest. I felt exactly like you describe here.

Now I am much more careful about water intake (1 gallon a day, min...no counting soda! lol), and I rest in the afternoons...that means I sit and work on school plans or whatever, but I *sit*. This has made a huge difference. I feel like myself again and no contractions anymore.

Listen to your sweet dh and don't overplan. I have advent plans going too...but everything is stuff I can direct from the couch and I can count on older children to read aloud if necessary.

Mandatory quiet time for kids... and Mom... every afternoon.

Books on tape from the library.

From another pregnant 37 - not yet 40 -year old.

I should have added that I noticed an ENORMOUS difference in energy levels in my almost 40 pregnancy and the after 40 one. It is hard to believe there can be such a change from mid thirties :).
I know now ( if I am ever again so blessed) to just punt the whole pregnancy. It's not worth stewing about.

Thank you all for the encouraging words. Had some nice sketch and snack time with my crew this afternoon and took a big deep breath.

Kris--I am 39 (40 in Jan.) and too am shocked at how differently my body is responding to this pregnancy vs. 37 even. Ah, we learn to treasure the babies a bit more with each passing year but the pregnancies are not quite as pretty!

I'm finding it much harder just with number 4 and at a 'mere' 35... Makes me realise how lucky I was with my previous pregnancies!

The one thing that keeps me going is an afternoon sleep -- even if only 10 minutes. DC listen to a tape, I snooze.
